I was really looking forward to the launch of these products, but they're actually supposed to boost the production of melanin as well as protecting against UVA/UVB. Would this make you get age spots?

These products look really interesting, Majorb! I had the same question as you...would they cause age spots? Or would you just get a tan like with a self tanner? If anyone has more info on this stuff, please post...I'm intrigued!

It does look nice, but more of a demi-protection tanning lotion than a full protection thing.

Does anyone know anything about one of the main actives gamma oryzanol?

And does anyone know whether melanin protects before it's oxidised and turns brown. I'm thinking it has to be post oxidisation so post some UVA radiation to protect, in which case the SS would have to leak a bit to protect more.

I'm only basing this assumption on the fact that the new synthetic melanin contained in the frownies product which is an anti-oxidant is naturally brown which makes their product kind of gravy coloured and unappealing.

I'm not sure I'd use this on my face, but it's an interesting new approach.

Molly - from what I understand gamma oryzanol was used as a "safe" alternative to anabolic steroids. Supposed to be made from plants or something. I'm not sure what role it would play as a topical in sunscreens though. hmm
Maybe there's info. on the net somewhere?
