It's a good time to visit HK for clothes shopping as the sales have started. If you like the big name designers, most of them should have 30 or more likely 50% off by next month.
If you're staying on HK island, Pacific Place mall is a good place to start, got lots of the major designers plus two department stores with nice clothes and shoes, Seibu and Lane Crawford.
There are lots of discount cosmetics/skincare chains in HK, Sa Sa is a popular one. You can find a lot of unusual things, including some Japanese products.
Hope you enjoy your trip...and bring your credit cards |

If you'll be staying in Kowloon, then Tsim Sha Tsui(TST) would be a great place to do some major damage to your credit card |

thanks guys!
what about the food, which restaurant/cofee shops/local specialties i must not miss?
is it summer now, how is the weather like? should i bring a light jacket?
i heard there's some factory warehouse that sells discounted designer clothes/items from the previous season, is that too good to be true?

Sisley skincare is much cheaper there. You can compare the prices at Holt Renfrew here in Vancouver. Don't forget you have to pay 13% tax in Canada. |

Hi Poppy, what kind of food do u like most? seafood? Shanghai food? Peking food? Japanese food? Korean food?
Here are some websites which you may find useful...
Food:
www.openrice.com
www.foodeasy.com
Warehouses for clothing:
http://hkoutlets.com/outlets/
Though it's very hot & humid now in Hong Kong, you'd better bring a light jacket because of the air-conditioning in the malls, restaurants and the bus...not to get ill during your trip!
If you need more personal comments on the restaurants, feel free to pm me. |

Hi Poppy, I spent about HK$2000.00 on Sisley procucts last time when I had a trip to HK. Apart from the free gift set, the SA gave me about 20+ samples to try. How nice it is!
To Ocha,
I don't know why I could not open the clothing outlet site. |

Poppy, lucky girl. try DHC and sofina products over there. they are much better priced! and also shiseido has a drugstore line of eyeshadows---majorca majolica, that are supposedly awesome for super cheap. i have hesitated to buy them on ebay since they mark up terribly. |

To bb2000, I can't access to their site sometimes...try it again, maybe their server is busy
To poppy, got you another useful website in English..hehe...http://www.hkta.org/eng/index.jsp
To angel06, many people find Hong Kong too hot to stay during summer, I think it's better to go in winter (Dec to Feb)...winter sales usually starts in Dec. I always get my cosmetic/skincare during Christmas as they offer great gift sets for a better price! |

Don't forget Chinese New Year sales in February - I find them much better than the Xmas sales as they're cheaper to get rid of all the Xmas stock to get ready for summer stock. |

Agreed with sormuimiu, just before Chinese New Year has the best discounts, although sometimes the "best items" have already gone.
Angel, I doubt you will find any summer clothes on sale in HK in December as it's winter time and shops here usually only carry current season stock. But the weather is better in December. Right now is very hot and humid, currently 30 degrees, at 11 pm! |

And yes, look out for pickpockets/bag snatchers. I had my favourite handbag stolen while shopping last year. |

If I was going to HK, these are the things I would love to buy as they are cheaper:
*Purfume and make up and anything to do with make up and skin care
*Electronics (ie usb memory stick, but nothing that requires a power point because they have diff voltages to Australia)
*make up tools like eyelash curler etc
*stationary!! they have the cutest stationary.
*bags - there are so many diff varieties that no one else will have them when you go back home
*food wise, i really miss oyster omelet, this white sweet call "low so torng"
Caution - beware of fake brands. You can have fake anything in hk and china
I want to goto hk too now |

skincare - most brands are cheaper there
shoes (only when they are on sale)
sneakers (Converse, Nike, Addidas) - they are cheaper and the styles are newer
clothes

I want to thank everyone for the great suggestions on this thread.
I enjoyed my trip very much and successfully did some damage to my Credit Card
The whole island was on sale and you can find almost any brand here! Jurlique, for one, is very reasonably priced here, as is Lipfusion and Dr Hauschka
If tehre's any EDS member who wishes to go, I am sure you will find a lot of brands that are mentioned frequently here. I really had to restrain myself and just stick to my shopping list (I made one LOL)
I also got myself a Marc Jacobs handbag at 50% off. And the food is cheap and delicious too.
Also went to the Joyce Factory Outlet looking for discounted jeans but couldn't find any that fit my big bum Unfortunate for me but DH secretly breathed a huge sigh of relief LOL
They have all kinds of brands (Habitual, 7, Chip and Pepper etc etc) at 70% off!
Thanks all! |

o yes everything is cheaper in hk..well, almost everything; there r a few skincare brands which may cost more, such as DDF
but overall everything is cheaper whether it's skincare or clothes or food..and there's no tax (not yet!!)
btw if anyone is interested in jurlique, it's much cheaper in hk..the lavender handcream in the larger size is only about $35 cdn in hk but in vancouver it's over $60 cdn
