I just received the Dr H trial kit for oily skin. I've used the CC, clarifying toner and normalizing day oil day and night for two days. So far so good. I'm very prone to breakouts mainly cystic. I had two cystics that had been forming for a week but now they're almost down to nothing. I've also been trying JB Blemish serum during these two days. No new breakouts, no rashes and no overly clogged pores. I'm happy so far but it's only been two days.
I'm very new to this world of better skin care and am coming off of Clinique. I'm wondering how long to give these products before I know they're probably not going to give me problems? The only "bad" thing so far is that my skin feels oily but I'm pretty sure that has a lot to do with clinique not drying out my skin anymore. Is two days enough time to pass judgement in this case? With the 20% off ending today I was thinking of ordering the full sizes of these products. Or does it usually take much longer to know if a product is going to irritate your skin? Thanks |

Misha,
It takes me 3 or 4 weeks to know if a product is going to cause breakouts. Some people seem to know within a few days. But it actually takes several weeks for a pimple (particularly a cyst) to form. On the sensitivity issue I think that it depends. I have very sensitive skin and with some products I know right away or within a few hours whether it is going to cause a problem. However, sometimes it takes 4 or 5 days to know if a product is irritating my skin.
Acne wise I think you will need more than the trial sizes to know for sure if they will cause breakouts for you. Sensitivity wise I think that you need more than two days to tell. HTH |

The skin cycles on average in 28 days. While some products may show a slight to significant improvement before that time, depending on the issue(s) and the way that the product works it may take at least the full 28 days to notice any improvement. Sometimes the change is so gradual that it is hard to notice what is going on... and some may use a good resolution digital camera when trying new products to refer to.
There are other products, like green cream, that work below the skins surface and can take 3 to 4 months to show what has been going on.
I think that a lot of times when we select a new product to try we want immediate results and do get frustrated when we do not see the results that others have raved about. Unless a product has had anything more than a slight negative impact on the skin when first applied (I say slight as in order to balance the skin there may be some undesired recovery effects that has to happen for the skin to be able to rejuvinate itself) then we would do ourselves a favor by giving the product some time to work.
It is also a good idea to not introduce too many products at once, especially when using products from several different lines as it would be difficult to ascertain what is working, what is not and what effects may be due to a "problem" product or what products may just be negatively interfering with one another.
With that said, I think that if I tried something and I thought that I liked it and I had a chance to save money by purchasing now, I would probably go for it and keep using my samples. If I do not open the products that I just purchased right away, I could always sell them on Ebay or give them away if I later found that the product was not for me. |
