I dont know which one is causing my face to look pink. I think i went for a too high vit c(skinceuticals 20%) for starters.Vitamin c dosent normally make my skin pinky but I've only used lower strengh ones before. I'm also using avene ystheal gel.
The thing is my skin is smoother and clearer since i started using them so it would be a shame to stop. It just looks pinky/reddy and i have even had someone comment on it
I use both at night as i know you shouldnt use retinol at day time and i worry that vit c being an acid that it woulnt be good to use in the day when exposed to the sun.I know alot do but i worry about it making my skin photosensitive.
Anyway im rambling on and i think i may need to give one of them up so my question is does anyone know other good anti-ageing and antioxidant creams/serums that wont irritate? Thanks |

I'm using the PSF 20% Vit-C and their 1% Retinol. I use the Vit-C in the AM and the retinol at night. I sometimes notice my skin seems a little more "pink" right after application, but that goes away in a short time.
I think it's ok to use Vit C during the day, although I'm not expert by any means. I thought I read that Vit-C can help protect your skin from free radicals from the sun.
Maybe you're experiencing the redness by using both the Vit-C and retinol at the same time. Try using the C morning and keep the retinol at night and if you're still finding yourself too pink, maybe alternate days? |

It is to be expected and with time it gets better. You should use the lowest strength and build up.
Also, when I first started, I applied it every 3rd day and then ever other day and then daily. |

I have found vitamin C for daytime, every day, and retinol at night, only 2-3 times per week, works best for me. |

It's the retinol that is causing the redness, but there is no reason to stop using it. Try using it every other night, then slowly increase.
As for the Vitamin C, why are you using it at night? Conventional wisdom is retinol products in the pm, vit c in the am....
Good luck ! |

I was worried about using in the day as its an acid plus i just dont have time in the morning to wait for products to sink in i.e vit c, then sunscreen, then makeup! I've read you should wait 20 min between layering products(something i hevent got the time for) Plus vit c stays on skin up to 74 hrs i heard so applying at night still gives plenty of protection the next day, just my opinion. |

I'm wondering too if the high alcohol content in the avene gel is irritating my skin. I had to stop using LRP fluide extreme(another one high in alcohol) because i noticed not long after applying my skin was red and even got sore in patches Which is a shame as i liked the texture of this) : |

Both alcohol and VC could irritate some people's skin, you may have to use products containing only one of them to figure out what is causing your skin to act up. |

I've stopped with the vit c for now and eased off on the avene gel. The funny thing is though, is the skin around my top lip and under my eyes is fine.I've been using both products there with good results, especially around the eyes, there's an increase in firmness.
So i dont know why the rest of my face seems a bit irritated. I'd have thought my skin would be used to both products by now(been using both about 3 months) and i built up slowly with the avene. |

I used MDF Cleanser with 14% glycolic, and Faical lotion 14% glycolic and 25% AHA peel once a week, they works very well on me, I love the result!! |

Alright, I only went 4 days without the c serum and thought this morning I'd try it and see what happens.
Well, almost immediately after applying my skin started turning red! Not really bright red but it def went reddish.I havent had this problem with vit c before but this is the strongest one ive ever used.
So i think ill switch to a 10% serum and see how i go. Also, sometimes this skinceuticals one stings when i apply. The CE Ferulic didnt do that.
Im wondering if the retinol is making my skin more sensitive.I thought its usually the prescription ones that can make you sensitive though?
Would i be better off just picking one and sticking to that? |

Hi Carol69
My reading is that both Retin A and Retinol will impair the skin barrier plus they make the epidermis thinner. Both those things lead to other products becoming more potentially irritating.
If you're using a highly acidic L-Ascorbic product you could change to using a C-ester one (e.g. the C&C from JB). They're in a neutral base so quite soothing and there's good research behind them just not as much as the L-Ascorbic. That's what I've decided to do for summer just because of the heat.
Sorry (edited) I didn't notice you already use the Ystheal.
