I was in SDMart yesterday, picking up a few things and the clerk handed me a brochure on Prevage. She then went on to say that it was the best thing ever for the skin (best thing since sliced bread) and that her Mother was using it - looked 10 years younger, blah blah blah....
Anyway, I told her I would think about, made my purchases and left.
My question - is anyone currently using this product, (or have ever used it?) I never see any discussions about this cream on the forum and was just wondering if it's the "miracle cream" that the clerk was saying it was.
Holy Grail? or Hype? |

Hi, I tried the original Prevage when it first came out. I was O.K. for the first few weeks, then had an awful allergic reaction to it.
On other boards I have heard of other members having reactions as well.
I think if it works for you, some people get great results, just be careful, hths. |

Thanks Gina - although I wonder what is causing the reaction in people? Since I didn't buy it, I have no idea what the ingredients are! |

IMO Prevage is mostly hype. Take a look at what the clinical results are as listed on the prevage website. http://www.prevagemd.com/x_studies.asp. Most of the results are reported by the users which does not have much scientific weight. If you look at the users reports and the expert graders section you will note the use of the word apperance. There is not enough science here to convince me that this cream would truly have any benefit.
Now the antioxidant benefits of Prevage do have some science behind them. You cannot see the actual study on the website but I have looked at it and it does convincingly show that the idebenone in Prevage is a good antioxidant. My only problem is that while idebenone may be the best antioxidant by itself they did not compare it to common antioxidant combinations like C+E. So using Prevage alone for antioxidant protection may not be as good as some antioxidant combinations.
You can find the complete ingredient list here,http://www.prevagemd.com/PDFs/PrevageMd_PI.pdf. I may be wrong here but I believe that the reaction many people have is to the idebenone itself.
If someone can come up with some studies that actually prove that Prevage has benefits other than being a good antioxidant please post the links! I would love to read them. |

I'd bought this (Elizabeth Arden version)! I got suckered by all the hype I must admit. I didn't have a reaction from it, and I think I did see SOME brightening of my skin, but that was about it. I actually never finished the bottle and am planning on just using it on my neck/chest/hands once I'm done with the other discarded products I've also designated for those areas (since they didn't work on my face either ).
I've gotten much better results from the products I've started using since being on here and hearing what works, than what I got from Prevage. I think for the price it is definitely over rated. |

I started using Prevage when it first came out and I liked it enough to repurchase it. However, the NEW formulation of Prevage MD (not the department store product - it's twice as potent) represents quite an improvement.
There have been MANY, MANY discussions about it here. Click on "Search" in the upper right hand corner of your screen and enter Prevage. You'll have plenty of stuff to read. No point in repeating it all once again. |

Sportygirl, I believe is is the Idebenone. I had tried a cream by Isomers that contained Idebenone, the same ingredient in Prevage and had the same reaction. |

Well, I read through a bunch of the posts and their seems to be very mixed reviews on this particular cream. I will try to get a few samples, just to see if I have a reaction to the idebenone or not, and I'll let you know how it goes. |

The reviews are DEFINITELY mixed sportygirl. In fact, when I first started using it, I wasn't sure if it had any effect at all. Then, I stopped using it, saw the difference, and started using it again. But, it wasn't a product I raved about.
Then they came out with the new formula and I came back on here and gave it a huge WOW. The improvement - IF it agrees with your skin - is almost instantaneous. But, a couple of members with sensitive skin tried it and loved it UNTIL it started to wreak havoc...
I've noticed that now, the Prevage MD foldout advises a special regimen for those with senstive skin. I don't recall them doing that before....
Either way, it isn't cheap (although for reasons I do NOT understand, the Prevage MD, which is the stronger product, is significantly cheaper than the otc Prevage) - best to try it before buying it. |

I tried the original Prevage but gave up after the bottle ran out. I didn't notice much, if any, improvement and didn't like the feel of it on my skin. It clogged my pores too.
When katee says she notices a difference when she DOESN'T use it I understand what she means: I recently tried Caudalie Radiance Serum to try to lighten my freckles. It didn't do the job, but I like it as a mild anti-oxidant because my skin looks better when I use it. It's not as drying as strong Vit.C sera. I can tell a difference (nothing extreme though) when I don't use it.
But I'm curious about Prevage MD -- does it require a prescription? |

I got one of the worst rashes of my life with the newer version of Prevage! What a bloody horror show! My lovely rash kicked in on day three I think. Good times!
It was down my neck, around and behind my ears, all over my face, and I honestly didn't even use that much! Dang! Apparently my face couldn't handle that much Idebenone
I do use the True Cosmetics Radiance product, and have not had a reaction to the Ideb. in that, however I'm not sure if I'll repurchase....again, no wow factor for me.

katee - I don't normally have sensitive or reactive skin (just oily) so I may be able to use this product, although it is kind of strange that it's cheaper and has more active in it!
I'll see if I can get a sample of the new formula! |

Count me in as another Prevage lover! As with any product, it works differently for everyone. I used various expensive Vit C serums and never saw any results I have with Prevage. When I finally tried it (Bang!) I could see why there was so much excitement about antioxidants. I could see more improvement in a month than I saw with an entire year of Vit C serums.
As far as it being a miracle de-wrinkler? NO! Nothing topical will ever be able to permanently take your wrinkles away. Even with prescription retinoids your skin will eventually return to it's previous state if you stop using them.
Of course we all like to hear about the clinical studies and that is what intially prompts me to purchase, but I ultimately end up using what I can see working with my own eyes.
Good luck in finding the ingredients that will work for your skin! |

No prescription is required for Prevage MD, but it isn't the version sold at Sephora or in department stores. Oddly, it is available at Amazon! I buy mine on ebay.... |

I bought True Cosmetics Radiance Serum for my mom and she loves it. The lady has used retinol (too irritating for her) and various vitamin c serums- Viver, Skinceuticals, Cellex C, Ultraceuticals PCA and etc. As well as TNS Recovery serum. I'm sure Essential Day Spa can look into my purchase history and vouch for this! None has made her skin as soft, smooth and bright as True. I know, I know, I sound like a walking ad! But it works for her, she notices it, I noticed it and everyone she meets and knows has commented that her skin looks healthier.
I have tried the Prevage MD and I have to say that for me I did see some firming and glowing but I'm only 30 so it's hard to say whether I was having a good skin day. I personally didn't think it worked for me. And I get just as good, if not better, results from Vitamin C serums. Besides, I hated the formulation of Prevage. So thick and siliconey! My mom loves the hydration of True so she's sticking with it.
I really do think the results vary from person to person. |

When it was first released over here in the UK, Harrods was trying to sell it big time! I picked up a package and checked out what was inside and immediately put it back down again. I can't remember the ingredients, but it was absolutely full of crap, I wouldn't put it on my bum, let alone my face! |
