I'm coming to an end with my Clarins toner (for combo/oily) skin. At first I was all set on Yonka's PNG Toner for Oily skin, then I figured I wanted one with witch hazel. I've heard good stuff about Dr. H's Clarifying but I'm a little worried it'll dry out my skin as alcohol is the 2nd ingredient (I would really prefer one w/o alcohol). I also noticed that the clarifying toner compared with the regular facial toner has a lot more ingredients - how much and how does it differ with the extra ingredients? I also find Dr.H a bit expensive...
I was also considering Thayers but I'm a sucker for lots of ingredients in my toners.
I also enjoy my Clarins which has (Iris, Witch hazel and aloe, alcohol-free but not all natural).
So now I'm stuck and I've literally read through every possible toner/dr.h/yonka threads on EDS. I have combo/oily (not SUPER oily, just oily) acne-prone skin but my chin is sensitive to flaking and my cheeks sensitive to tightness (which I don't like).
Should I get the Yonka, Dr. H (which one), Thayers or repurchase my Clarins?

| Sormuimui--- Dr. H is expensive, but it is soooo worth it! It's my HG toner. Both of the Dr. H toners contain alcohol which I try to avoid, but miraculously they don't dry my skin out at all. If anything, they seem to be slightly hydrating, but they also still help control oil. (I know, it's miraculous, right?) I have a full-size bottle of the regular toner, but I've also tried a sample of the clarifying. I loved them both, but I did not notice a WHOLE lot of difference (maybe someone else who has used both has noticed more of a difference?) so I think either one is a safe bet. Another use I've found for the Dr. H toner is if I've been having a really oily day, I blot my face and then I mist it with the toner. The spray is really fine so it doesn't disturb my make up, but it really obliterates the oil so I just dust on some powder and my face looks fresh again. Highly recommended. |

i had a facial done last year and the facialist used the yonka toner on me and i later received a sample of it, and i admit i do like a lot even though i am through my yonka phase. i have never tried clarinsor dr.hashuka skincare, but if you're looking for an alcohol free toner for your skin type, you could give DHC balancing toner a try. it has lemon extract to balance and has allantoin and serine to help moisturize the drier areas. the link is here if you wanna check it out http://www.dhccare.com/DHC/ProductDetail.aspx?CS_ProductID=170&CS_Catalog=DHC%20USA i personally have only tried samples of this toner (but have tried about everything else in their catalogue  ), but i am very fond of DHC, very affordable high quality japanese brand. |

Thanks for your replies. What about the Decleor mattifying lotion - it has witch hazel and claims to be alcohol-free, has anyone tried that?
I think I read from some threads that some people find it a bit drying - is that the case? Sometimes I really don't know whether I should go for a toner for oily skin or for normal/combo because I need a toner that purifies and softens at the same time in case I'm feeling a bit dry that day or when my normal cleanser leaves my skin feeling slightly taut.
If I go for Dr.H will long-term use of the clarifying toner be too drying? Should I opt for the normal facial toner? |

I don't think either Dr. H toner would be too drying. They are actually the least drying toners I've ever used--- quite an accomplishment considering all the toners I've tried.  |

Hi there,
I love Earth Science Clarifying toner with witch hazel, aloe, ACV, HA, sulfur and some other stuff but no alcohol.
It's lovely for my combination skin and soothes my skin when I break out.

| I find Dr H Clarifying Toner a bit drying. I also think it is very over priced for what it is. I have tried the Decleor Floral Water toner and it was really nice. |

I really love the Yonka Toner, i'm on my second bottle and would continue to repurchase again. It's in a glass bottle though, so it's not that practical to carry around with you.
I recently received a free toner from Henry Tianus, which is a natural range and I'm starting to really like their Mint and Hazel Toner aswell. It's perfect for oily skin, but doesn't leave my skin feeling dry at all. |

Wow the Henry Tianus looks really good but I doubt I can get my hands on it over here in Vancouver. Actually apart from the toner they have a lot of nice looking products. But it's quite expensive if you add on the shipping

It's a shame the Henry Tianus isn't easier for you to get. I actually probably wouldn't have purchased anything from this range, if it hadn't been for the fact that they sent me some product samples to test and review  I won a few full size products from the feedback I gave. I've heard good things about the Antioxident serum, but I haven't tried that yet, sure I will at some point! |

Why don't you try the PSF R&R Toning Mist? It's a gentle and soothing toner w/o alcohol. i can see there are many good reviews regarding this toner. I have finish a bottle recently and found it very good on soothing and calming the skin although I am not that fancy the cucumber smell... |

what is the difference between the 2? It seems from the ingredients that the only difference is they have different fragrances. |

| Recently I began using a Toner by Ada Gaffney Shaff. It's alcohol free and uses a combination of Aloe Vera, Rosewater, Soy Proteins, and Witch Hazel. Makes my skin feel great. Google "ada gaffney shaff" to see it online. |

| I was using the Dr. H regular toner, but I recently (last week) switched to the clarifying toner. I also started using the Dr. H CC, and the normalizing oil, before that I was using a light layer of the rejeuvenating mask as a moisturizer. At the moment, my skin is looking better than it has in quite a while. The pores in my cheeks are less noticeable, I have fewer blackheads on my nose, and fewer spots in general (touch wood). So, basically, I can't attribute the change to using the new toner because I made a couple of other changes as well, but I am happy with it. I just cleanse and use the toner at night, no moisturizer, and I don't find it drying. While my skin breaks out, it is not generally oily, and can tend toward dryness, so I don't think that the clarifying toner is especially drying. |

I think I'm going to wait until I get samples of Dr.H toners before purchasing Dr.H full sizes as there seems to be mixed opinions on this.
I found I had a sample of the Dewy Flower Toner for combo skin from The Face Shop. I'm going to be trying this and looking up the ingredients in the store to see if it contains alcohol. The description from the site sounds so good:
"Moisturize and keep surface oil in check with this refreshingly light and fast-absorbent formulation of various white flowers, plum, and witch-hazel extracts in mineral-rich Alpine water"
The whole line looks great and I have a sample of the emulsion too but too bad I don't use moisturizers. They even recently changed all their packaging so now it looks more high-end and SUPER pretty, reminds me of l'occitane packaging. |

| I really think the Dr. H clarifying toner is worth trying, it hasn't dried out my skin at all, and if you use the DHCC, the toner is a great companion to it. (my skin is quite sensitive/reactive, and i've had no problems, especially considering i use it abt 1000 times/day!) |

| I like the Juice Beauty hydrating mist, and after reading about your skin type, I think it might work for you. I have an oily nose and dry cheeks, and this stuff seems to keep the dryness at bay but no tmake the oiliness worse. It also has a pleasant scent and is fun to spritz on-- oh, and it reasonably priced. $22 for a 6 oz bottle. I spray like crazy and have yet to make a dent in it. |

| Whichever onw you end up choosing, I would make sure to stay away from alcohol. Not only is it bad for your skin, it will make your already oily skin kick into sebum over-production and it will just make matters worse!! |

samkaj that is good news. I got this with my last EDS order but have not tried it yet (I am being very good about only changing one thing in my routine at a time). I really like the other Cellcosmet prodcuts that I have tried and was hoping that this would be good for my sensitive skin. Do you use it once or twice a day? Also, do you use the Activator Gel? I got samples of that one and have tried it a few times and am not sure if it agrees with my sensitive skin or not. |

| I'm a big fan of the Dr. Hauschka Facial Toner; it works beautifully on my combination skin. FWIW, I used the Clarifying Toner several years ago and did find it a bit drying. |
