Hi everybody,
for the past year I have been fighting head iching. So I go and buy T/Gel shampoo from Neutrogena and Scalpicin and use them for about a week or so. The red spots go away as well as the flaking and iching. I keep my hair short (I am a guy) so it has really not been a major problem.
But the problem returns after a month or so once off of the 2 listed treatments If I ignore it, it gets really bad.
Now I want to grow my hair and I know I need to address this. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

You could try a more natural approach by adding some tea tree oil to your shampoo. If that doesn't work though I would definitely go see a doc. Good luck! |

It could be build-up from your shampoo making your head itchy. What sort of shampoo do you use when you're not using the T-gel, etc? You should try a moisturizing shampoo like Neutrogena Triple moisturie. Maybe try something without Sodium lauryl sulfate as well (if you search SLS here on EDS you'll find many suggestions). |

I had a similar problem several years ago. In my case, switching to a very gentle, natural shampoo and rinsing once a week with apple cider vinegar made a world of difference. |

About once a month I try to do the trick of applying baking soda to my scalp and rinsing it out, to get rid of product buildup, maybe that would help? The other suggestions are great, too. Apple Cider vinegar seems to do the same thing as far as getting rid of buildup, but the baking soda seems to be more effective, for me. |

BeFreeMan--try henna, it tints your hair red though, but the itching and dandruff and everything goes away for about a month, until you do it again. more infor here: http://www.hennaforhair.com/faq/index.html |
