Dear all,

My derm has me on the following routine; I'm 26 w/ oily skin and breakout constantly.

Morning

IS clinical cleanser morning
IS clinical actif serum
Moisturizing sun block

Evening

Cleanse
Retin A micro. 004 %
ultra light moisturizer

Its not very effective as i stil get pimples and red blotches...

Can anybody help me out? I'm not sure what the actif serum is supposed to do and is the retin-a micro good enough? Would differin or a stronger forumlation be any good?

Also, the derm doesn't seem interested in helping me out with adding other anti aging products such as vitamin c serum, etc into the regime. What should I do?

How long have you been using this routine? If it's been a few months and you're still having acne problems, maybe you need a stronger Retin-A.

I think it's pretty lame that your dermatologist isn't interested in hearing what you want to do, unless he/she think it's not a good idea. And they should also explain what the products they're prescribing do!

Hi Aquablue...is there a particular time of the month or a particular area on your face where you breakout?Do you get your periods regularly??...i ask because at your age...it is very likely to be hormonal.

I would find a different dermatologist if you do not feel he is meeting your needs.

I have had very similar problems as you. I used retin-A and retin-A micro since I was 19 (I am now 32). I also periodically use clindagel (a topical antibiotic) If I am having a particularly bad bout of cystic acne, I use trimethoprim (an oral antibiotic).

I suspect that your skin will dry up as you increase the strength of your retin-A, as it did for me. I recently switch from Retin-A micro 0.1% to tazorac gel.

Also, be aware that it can take about 12 weeks to really start seeing results from your retinA. It is hard, but you have to have patience.

good luck!

My sister had great success with the DDF acne line. She had tried everything, and this worked great.
