My nephew's 13th bday is coming up and I cannot figure out what I can give him. He is not a little boy anymore so I cant give him toys or clothes. He is very much into sports but his dad owns a sporting good store so I can rule out getting him anything relating to sports. He spends way too much time online with messaging and online games so I am not allowed and do not want to buy him anything relating to games. I brought him book sets before hoping that he might become a avid book reader but he never even bother touching them. I am at a lost as to what to get him. Would someone be kind enough to give me some ideas?

Not even educational games? How about
"Brain Age: Train Your Brain" for Nintendo DS?

I think a gift certificate is a great gift as well. Kids at that age usually have pretty specific tastes! At least that way he's really going to get something he wants! Laughing

Having tons of nephews and nieces, gift card is better than cash, that way at least you know there not buying drugs or booze Silenced !! or at very least something their mom will kill you for (although I do recall getting drums for my 4 yr old nephews rofl ). Also at 13 they are tough to buy for!!

MelissaMarie, sugar, I am sorry but cash is the superior gift here.
Don't you want her to be the coolest aunt in the world?
The kid can easily get his hands on booze/drugs without her cash, come on Rolling Eyes

I'm inclined to agree with spa cake, though you could get him one of these:

and at least he can have something to look at when he's zonked out Very Happy

Thanks everyone for your input! I tend to lean towards MelissaMaria's idea of getting a gift certificate and not cash. You guys have no idea how this dude spend his money, if he has a dollar he would give it to his friends and I have actually seen his schoolmates ask him for money. He has no perception as to the value of money or how to spend or what not to spend with it and thats not very good IMO.

Which retailer is best for getting him a gift certificate, anyone?

If he has an ipod, I suggest getting him a card for iTunes.

For my teen relatives I usually throw in a few scratch-off lottery tickets too (if their parents are cool with that). Teenagers usually LOVE those!
