I read that some mineral makeup can have sunscreen in it. Is this true? If so which ones? Currently I have loads of BE (that I will be trading on MUA soon) but it makes my face itch. I also have Everyday Minerals which I like quite a lot. Does EM have sunscreen in it? I can't see that it says that on the packaging or the website. |

Yes they do, as they usually always contain Zinc Oxide and/or Titanium Diooxide.
Unforunately, you would have to layer on heaps to actually get any beneficial sun protection. I've heard using MMU, for the best finish, one is supposed to use a tiny amount of powder only. |

Hi Anna_in_Sweden,
Yes ... if your MMU has zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, it's got sunscreen. These are "physical" sunscreens.
From what I've read, each layer of MMU that you apply [foundation, finishing powder, blush etc] if they contain one or both of the above physical sunscreens, has an SPF of about 15. Because these are physical sunscreens and in powder form, each layer actually adds to the SPF of the last. At least that's how I understand what I've read from the various MMU information I've researched.
This isn't true for lotion type sunscreens I gather.
At the very least, you have an SPF of 15 ...

The SPF stated on JI's products are correct. That is because they have spent a lot of money to get the SPF rating from the FDA. The money they've spent is thus translated into higher costs of their products, which is why JI is more expensive than the average MMU line. Other smaller companies can only state that their SPF is "around" 15. Getting a rating from the FDA is very costly, and so they claim that they've spent their money on developing better quality products instead. But since a lot of those MMU's first ingredient is titanium dioxide, you can be rest assured that they are in fact "around" 15. |
