Ok, for anyone that has been following the...lets see..hormonal birth control/hormonal acne/post pill woes threads...you may remember that I stated after various years of using hormonal methods for birth control/regulating my cycle, I had decided to give up hormonal methods last October.
For the last 10 or so months I have experienced many pluses and minuses based on this decision, and have often question whether or not I made the right choice. Aside from trying to get my skin under control (good now...finally!), it has been additionally difficult and frustrating for me trying to figure out what my body is going through. My main and most recent concern has been that I have not experienced any periods over the course of the time I have been off hormonal methods. I think it was about when I got to the 6 month mark I really started to worry and even went back to my Doctor to try and gain some clarity (no help there, as I was told to just wait it out).
Anyway. So that brings me to today! Well, yesterday. I apologize for the personal nature (ie TMI) of this post, but as it has been discussed previously I figured what the heck.
I finally got my period! It happened yesterday and though I was relieved, I waited until today to talk to my SO and let him know (His response..."Hey, good job.' LOL). I just wanted to make sure it was real, and not just some abnormal spotting or something to that effect.
I don't think I have ever been so delighted to realize I am getting my period. Although, within the course of the last 48 hours, my initial excitement/relief has of course given way to slight disdain at the minor annoyances that accompany this lovely event.
I truly appreciate anyone's posts about similar experiences or concern regarding some of the things I have been experiencing. It helped a great deal to know I wasn't alone. Thank you!

Ah, lovely being a woman, no?! Blah. We deserve to rule the world for what we have to put up with our entire reproductive lives.
My hormonal treatments started at 14 and then before my 15th birthday I ended up on the pill.. took that through to my early 20s but as I never could experience regular periods no matter what variety or concoction they used, I ended up on some hormone treatment that stopped my period altogether for 1 year (the most blissful year of my life). Upon finishing the course, the gyno told me it could be up to one year before my periods returned. Guess what? 28 days later they were back on my doorstep. I was truly not a happy camper. Never fixed the problems or found the cure, nor had a curette or a laperoscapy (or however it is spelled).
By late 20s I stopped with the pill.. went back on for six months in my early 30s and have just spent one year on bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, but I now give up. Have thrown in the towel. I am 40. I will forever have excruciating pain and terrible PMS symptoms. There are not that many more years to go I guess |

Tim, I had to come off the combined pill recently as I was starting to have problems with my blood pressure spiking (isn't it great getting older...), and I now take a progesterone-only pill which is fab. There's no withdrawal bleeding at all, so you never need to worry about it, and it's alledgedly as safe contraceptive-wise as the other pills. Might be worth checking it out if you haven't done so already? Supposedly the effects only last as long as you keep taking it, and periods should go back to normal afterwards. Haven't tried that though... |
