Hi guys, i wanna ask if it is worth having a dermatologist and going regularly. Instead of me just trying to self analyze my skin, i wonder if its worth going to dermatologist on a regular basis and just use the skin care that they would recommend? The only problem i see is that most of those dermatologist office just carry limited brand of skin care.
Any experience? Thanks!!! |

| Whenever I go to a dermatologist, I am always afraid to hear that my concerns are futile. Unless you have skin problems that cannot be resolved by over-the-counter products, I would refrain to go. |

I would think it would depend on how old you are???
I'm 42 and I go to one once a year....I get my skin checked for skin cancers...freckles looked at, etc...none detected so far, plus, I get my Retin-A prescription refilled and its a chance to discuss skin related questions. |

| Hi - I would highly recommend visiting a dermatologist. I started going to see one when I turned 35 - every year. She was able to catch a suspicious mole, way before I would have taken any action on it. Our health is so important. And keeping our skin healthy is part of that. I let my dermatologist help me on that! |

I completly agree, its vital to get your skin checked once a year, I went 3 months ago to have some moles looked at, good thing b/c two turned out to be pre-cancerous, so now Im having them all lopped off!
I also dont think its necessary to buy a product line just b/c its offered in their office, skincare I think is one of those things thats done buy trial and error, as long as you are following the rule of regular sunscreen use everything else is up to your time, budget, and courisity. |

I am 28, my concern is not really because of developing skin cancer. My main reason is improvement, prevention and maintainance of the skin.
Just wonder if its best to have professional to guide you on what product to use on your face. Instead of just using anything that might do more harm than good. |

I think a good dermatologist is essential if you have a problem you cannot solve on your own - acne, rosacea, etc - in a lot of cases I think people can maintain skin on their own, but lots of OTC treatments make existing skin conditions worse. And I am sure if you wanted reccomendations on what truly works for anti aging they would be able to help, but you might be able to find those answers by doing some research on your own, too.
If you go to a reputable one, they won't just push the products THEY stock - I don't think mine has EVER reccommended one that she carried - she went with what was best for me(I have rosacea)
IMO, you are never too young to start checking your skin for suspicious moles, etc - cancer doesn't discriminate!
