I was sitting at my computer thinking to myself that maybe, just maybe someone will discover a reversal before I go completely gray. (When your love is 7 years younger than you, you become obsessed with looking younger ). I decided to google gray hair and found a few interesting facts. One is that chemo patients who lose their gray hair sometimes grow back their old color... soooo, it's definitely not impossible! They did state that they have no idea why this happens.
I also came upon this interesting article: http://www.japancorp.net/Article.Asp?Art_ID=7921
Thank God! I now have hope!
Does anyone know if anything ever came of this? |

| Call me wierd but I love white hair. My family on my moms side goes white starting in the teen years. I'm only just starting to notice my white at 50. My cousin was white in her 20's. I do highlight my hair to make it look less ashen, but if it begins to go to a more white overall look I'll leave it. |

I don't think that is weird. I always thought if I could go grey in an interesting way (like a streak or a nice solid all-over) that I would leave it alone. I just can't stand the one here and one there. |

I know someone who works at Shiseido and I just emailed her to ask.
Shiseido in Japan does have a range called Serum Noir (with a tag line "no white hair")
http://www.shiseido.co.jp/serumnoir/
It does not seem to have any hops ingredients (and I think this line came out before 2004), but the aim is for healthy scalp to promote "thick, beautiful hair". The idea is to stimulate circulation of the blood, bringking waste tothe surface and removing it.
Helps with hair loss, itchy scalp, good after childbirth, after being ill, etc. etc.
The products are supposed to plant moisture retention formula and contains Japanese pepper extract, pop extract (for a moment I thought this was "hop", but it says "pop"), sorbitol, coriander, and the shampoo also has mineral clay
There is a massage shampoo and treatment, a serum essence, and a "spashing" drops.
The Shampoo is 2200 yen (almost US$20) for a 240ml bottle this stuff aint cheap. One of the serums is almost $50!
ETA: I did a quick search online and there are other companies that have hops in their shampoo, such as Nature's Gate (Awapuhi Volumizing Shampoo). I also peeked at the Shiseido annual reports for 2004 to 2006 and no mention of this in the R&D pages. |

Yeah, and while we drink it we can soak our scalp in it! |

Yup, that's why I'm highligting right now though the crown is starting to get more white in the past year. Not enough to look anything but mousey right now...darn! |

I dont know of any Japanese shop that ships it overseas and SASA dont sell it either. I could pick some up for you if you want and ship it over to whereever you are. Just send me a PM if you want me to pick it up. To get all 4 proucts would proabably end up costing about $90 and then probably another $15-$20 for shipping.
Must be good stuff though. |

OK, kiddies, I heard back from my friend at Shiseido. She said:
FUROURIN LVE ACT G (It's for men)
and
SERUM NOIR(scalp lotion, shampoo, hair treatment for women)
contain the hop essence. |

I'm interested in this too!
But I just read a webpage that would indicate that the Serum Noir was definitely on sale in 1999 (and probably earlier). Is it really related to the Kirin hops extract thing? |

Grey hair can also be a lack of copper in the diet, as copper is what causes the production of melanin, which colors the hair and skin. Also, zinc deletes copper reserves, so any one supplementing with zinc would probably need copper as well. Foods that are high in copper are the foods most people probably eat the least like oysters and organ meats. (ICK)! So, if the greying isn't hereditary, it may just be a lack of copper! |

| So just to add a little twist to this...you may want to consider this before taking copper supplements. I've never had a problem with hyper-pigmentation until I got a copper IUD. Going gray early runs in my family and so I've had a bit of gray hair since I was 30 (I'm 36). When I got my IUD I noticed my hair colour did not fade as fast and it "seemed" I was getting less gray hair BUT for the first time ever I had a problem with pigmentation on my face!!! I do not have the IUD anymore and it seemed the last time I colored my hair it didn't last as long but I am noticing the face pigmentation is getting better. I guess out of the two options I'd rather have to color my hair more often... |

From what I've read, lack of copper, PABA, and/or certain B vitamins can make your hair lose pigment if there is no genetic component to consider.
Some of the remedies to consider are:
1) Molasses
2) Bee Pollen (I read that Pres. Ronald Reagan took these religiously to keep the black in his hair)
3) Brewer's Yeast (due to the vast amount of necessary vitamins and minerals your body needs including B-->good if you are under a lot of stress I guess)
I also found this on another site. I can't remember where. I think it's from www.lef.org:

If you are concerned about the gray, then I read about this on an internet board somewhere, but I forgot where.
I was at the library on the internet and I wrote it down on an old napkin but I don't have the website address.
1. Panthothenic Acid
2. PABA
3. Brewer's Yeast
Take the recommended dose of the PABA and the pantothenic acid and take 8 of the brewer's yeast daily. It is supposed to take a couple of months...look at the roots.
It is also said that biotin, folic acid and inositol helps with grays.
One man said that his beard and sideburns turned back black when he took vitamin b5, zinc and avocados daily. he said it took several months. |
I don't know how effective these remedies are but since I'm seeing a bit more grays as I am turning 36, I'm taking Maxi-Hair vitamins, Brewer's Yeast, and Biotin. We'll see what happens in several months. |

That's interesting. My grandmother didn't go gray until she was in her 80's and my mom is 54 and still not a gray hair in sight. I'm 32, but have been under an enormous amount of stress lately and the grays became noticeable about 5 months into it, so I attributed it to stress. But maybe the copper will help.
I just looked at my "Hair" vitamins and they contain:
Vitamin A 5000IU
Thiamin 1.5mg
Riboflavin 1.7mg
Niacin 35mg
Folic acid 400mg
vitamin B12 10mcg
Biotin 100mcg
Pantothenic acid 92mg (900%DV)
Iodine 150 mcg
Zinc 15mg
Copper 2mg
Maganese 1mg
Choline 60mg
Inositol 125mg
PABA 35mg
I wonder if that is enough copper, or should I get more? |

| I tried that for awhile- at least 5- 6 months and didn't notice any different (from skin biology) although I know from reading on the site that some people have had success with it. |

After debating, I left my hair in. I was afraid of that urban legend where if a white hair is plucked, two more grow in its place. Silly...I know. |

For those who may be interested: I was reading the Energy Times and saw an add for Bao Shi - a supplement with traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicinal herbs that claims to reverse greying... you can read about it here:

i just found 2 white hairs today and am kinda upset. i know these are from this school semester because of the length of the white, the bottom parts of the hairs were dark (i had a lot of problems with one of my law school clinic supervisors and was majorly stressed). i need to avoid stress . anyway, off to eat more organ meats as advised. |
