Maybe I should post this in the lounge, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I was wondering if it matters if you drink your daily water all at one time. I hate water unless I'm working out or sweating. I cannot make myself drink it unless I stand in the kitchen and gulp it down bottle after bottle or glass after glass until my stomach is sloshing and full of water. I do this a couple of times a day.
On the other hand, I drink at least half a gallon of tea every day. Hydration is not an issue for me, and I know tea has antioxidant properties. I also know that it's a diuretic, though.
...So do I have to drink this nasty water if I'm drinking non-carbonated liquids, and if so, am I getting the benefits if I drink it like that? |

You only benefit a little by the way you drink water. You're supposed to sip a little each time and do it constantly. I know it's hard but this way water stays in your body and goes to different places. Otherwise it goes to the toilet 30 min after you drink it. |

Try Crystal Light; there's a lot of flavors and it doesn't have many calories because it has Nutra-Sweet or Splenda in it. You could try tea too; I think as long as whatever you mix doesn't have that much of a diuretic effect, you can use anything that gets you to drink it with a smile.... |

I haven't really noticed the benefits of drinking water until recently. I've been drinking a lot more cold water (drinking cold water actually burns calories because your body has to heat it up in order to use it). I have noticed a difference in my skin and my waist line. |

Tosca--i think you should be drinking it throughout the day. tea is good, but is there such a thing as tea overdose from the caffeine? i heard you ca overdose on coffee. i know the chinese and japanese drink tea all day but they drink it in those small, small cups.
anyway, if you like citrus fruits, a squeeze of lemon, lime, or orange oughta make the water taste better. oh, and have you heard of rooiboos tea/red tea? it has no caffeine http://www.adagio.com/rooibos/?SID=e069b589a67524eec022fa26fa92e60b . or simply decaf tea also. |

They say that water should be drank at the rate of a glass per hour until early evening and I put a slice of lemon or lime in mine as I hate the taste of water but it does wonders for your skin. |

omgosh, please don't drink 2L of water in one setting! It's great that you're putting in the effort, but it's actually quite damaging for your kidney. You're basically putting your kidneys into overdrive If you really hate the taste of water, add some lemon and/or honey. Also, yes you can overdose on tea, but it is quite difficult to :P I learned that the lethal dose of coffee (don't mean to scare anyone!) is 10 cups. Tea is proabably like 20 cups, which is impossible in my opinion But drinking tea or ice tea or other liquid is never as good as just drinking water |

It may sound weird but I noticed that my skin is more hydrated and not as oily. I know it's because of the water. It's the only thing that I've done differently the last month. |

Off topic: Natz, what does your name mean? Here it would be pronounced, "not-z". I doubt that it means that but it struck me when I saw it and I'm not Jewish. |

Hey Tosca,
I just found something in the new issue of Shape that's relevant to the caffeine/water issue.
A lady wrote in because an older article said that the Mayo Clinic OKed coffee to fufill hydration needs. Her point was that caffeine is a diuretic and that even though there's water in a lot of drinks, it doesn't mean they're all good for hydrating.
Shape wrote back saying that newer studies shows that athletes who drank caffeinated drinks after exercising in heat were just as hydrated as athletes who drank decaf drinks. "So yes, you can count coffee, tea and even caffeine-containing soda toward your daily eight glasses of water (though we suggest limiting the latter because of its sugar and calorie content).
That's good news for you then! |

Yea!!! Thanks, my sushi secret! I feel a little better now. Also, thans to everyone else. I'm going to try to work in more water anyway - well, at least try to space it out. I will make a real effort in the next month and see if I notice a difference. - Got hubby to take a "before" picture. (UGH!! I didn't realize my skin looked that bad.) |

Definitely going to try to do better. I could never drink a cup of hot water with lemon, though. That seems really disgusting. |
