I have been lurking and reading the posts on JM Eyelash. I couldn't find the post where some women were reporting eyelash loss and wanted to post my experience. I started using it 6 1/2 weeks ago. I used to have long thick lashes, but for reasons even my doctor can't explain, have had thinning on one eye with an occasional small bald patch. The patch would fill in, be normal for a couple months, then fall out again.I have read about this happening to other women just on one eye. It's weird that only one eye would be affected. It's not a very big bald patch, but noticable, especially with mascara on. My lashes have gotten VERY long with the JM, but not thicker. I am also losing lashes on my bad eye again I am worried if I continue to use JM that more lashes will fall out. Has anyone who has experienced shedding had it (the shedding) increase? Did your lashes grow back quickly? I know someone posted about the growth cycle and eyelash loss being normal, but my other eye is fine- no lash loss, at least not noticable - and it isn't normal to shed to the point of a bald patch. Will the JM eventually thicken my lashes or does it just make them longer? I wasn't really interested in longer lashes. Mine were already long. I just wanted to thicken them and fix the trouble area where I have shedding. My lashes are so long now they actually look weird, especially on the eye that is thin. The length seems to accentuate the thinness. They also seem unruly. They are so long they don't stay straight, they kind of go off to the side a bit and cross over each other. Anyone with experiece, will my lashes continue to fall out if I keep using the JM? Will the lashes come back sooner with using JM? Will they eventually thicken or is this product only good for length? Thanks for any help. |

That's odd. So you have one spot where, persistently, lashes fall out and then they grow back for a while? I think Carrie might be best to answer this question....
IMO the Jan Marini product is meant to encourage lash growth (i.e. you should grow new lashes) as well as condition existing lashes so they can grow longer before they naturally fall out. So, you should be achieving longer lashes (like it or not) as well as thicker (i.e. denser) lashes. If there is some underlying reason for a patch of them to fall out then this will probably persist. Could it be some sort of infection? Does that area of the lash line get itchy at all before/during the lashes shedding? |

Thanks for responding. I know it's not an infection. I saw my doctor and he could find no cause. He referred me to an opthamologist who could also find no reason for the shedding. I wish it was as simple as an infection. A course of antibiotic cream and the problem would be solved! I have read of other women having a problem with just one eye so maybe this is something that happens in late 30's and up? A while back I tried cutting a very small section of false eyelashes and putting it on the bald spot, but it looked really unnatural and I was paranoid about it falling off. I also worried it might hinder new growth in that area. |

I went through this from my late teens to my early forties. And it would affect both eyes. I'd lose a patch of eyelashes - usually right at the apex of the curve of my upper eyelid - very noticeable. I often thought of buying those individual eyelash clusters to glue onto the bald spots, but ended up just covering the bald area with mascara and sort of criss-crossed my eyelashes where it wasn't so noticeable.
I had a doctor that was pretty convinced it was a type of alopecia. But since it was just on my eyelashes, and the lash line would often be bit sore just before it happened, I tend to think it was something other than alopecia. Another doctor theorized a sensitivity to the mites that live on our skin (now THAT'S a pleasant thought!!!). Whatever it was, I'm glad to say that now, in my late 40's, I haven't had to deal with it in several years. But we never did identify exactly what the problem was...
Sorry I couldn't be of any help - but maybe it helps to know you're not the only one going thru it...
For what it's worth, I'm currently using the Jan Marini lash serum too. My goal was also thicker lashes, since they were already plenty long. I've used it for about 2 months & I definitely see an increase in thickness (& length). However, I also see the unruliness you're talking about. I can't get some eyelashes to curl at all; others are so curly I can't get mascara on them. Several are growing sort of sideways. I still like the way they look a lot better than before, and the 1000 Hour lash tint helps so that I don't feel like I HAVE to wear mascara everyday (mascara would have always been one of my "desert island" must haves, so that's a big statement! ). |
