Is mineral makeup enough to keep from getting sun-damage? Or do I need to wear an actual sunscreen with it?

MMU usually acts as a physical UV blocker, but I still wear sunscreen underneath JUST in case! There is a debate about how much MMU you put on is enough. |

I agree with Poufy. I always always wear a true stable sunscreen under my minerals.
The minerals themselves do have have spf due to the zinc and/or titinium dioxide. But I apply just pinch or a dusting. I think of it as an extra layer but not enough on its own. |

I've used Colorscience mineral makeup and the clear powder sunblock while living in the Caribbean without another sunblock and didn't get burned. Also used the clear powder on my son when he was a month old and no burn (although he was in the shade quite a bit). I like the powder because it's easy to apply and reapply and convenient to carry in my purse. I have Bare Minerals now but haven't tried it yet. I've only used these products on my face and ears, used lotions for the rest of me. |

I've read you're supposed to use a quarter (or was it a half) a teaspoon on your face to get the stated SPF with MMU. That quantity's going to make you look a bit stupid. |

I always wear a sunscreen and only wear MMU as an added protection |

I usea few depending on the weather. The two I use the most are Dr Lewinn's Private Formula - contains 19% zinc
or MD forte sunscreen - contains approx5% zinc I think. |

What sunscreen are you using? I just found out a lot of sunscreens supposedly conflict with MMU, so I'm a little bit lost |

I use a few different ones - Kiss Me Sunkiller SPF 50, Anessa Perfect UV Sunscreen Ex Waterproof SPF 50, and The Organic Pharmacy Cellular Sun Protection SPF 25. When I first got my Lily Lolo MMU foundation, I was wearing it everyday. Now I'm just wearing it when I need to as I'm too lazy to clean it off in the evening |
