Hello all! You may have seen my raves about the Remede 3 Minute Peel I finally received after it was on backorder forever. I LOVED it after the first time I used it!! It had an immediate effect on the lines and wrinkles - especially my crows feet and the lines around my mouth and nose area from a previous smoking habit (yuk!). It also reduced the lines/wrinkles on the rest of my face from my daily worship of the sun in my younger years.
HOWEVER, about 3 days after I used it the second time (you are supposed to use it once a week for 6 weeks and then take a break), I began developing what was obviously going to become a monster zit - the kind that start out as a cyst under the skin and take about a week to develop before it surfaces. Now - I have never had acne - not even as a teenager. I do get the occasional zit depending on the time of the month and my diet, etc. Nevertheless, it was only one, so I didn't think much about it. I figured the peel must have unclogged some pores. Plus - it was that time of the month.
WELL - Over the next 3-4 days, approx. 7 more formed. They were all horrible! I don't even know if I would call them pimples. I think the more appropriate term is "subcutaneous cyst." (As you can tell, I've been researching it on the net!). They were all around my nose and mouth.
It has been about a week and a half since the first one appeared and they are FINALLY beginning to go away - after numerous applications of every kind of ointment, lotion, zit zapper, cream, exfoliant - you name it - I tried it. Some of them were extremely painful (of course, some of the pain may have been due to my constant treatments. I have a feeling they may have gone away a little earlier if I had left them alone a little more). They are now at the point where they aren't as big but they look horrible under makeup because they are drying out so the makeup sticks there and makes them even more noticeable.
NOW before you come to any conclusions, let me say this - I still love the effect the peel had on my wrinkles and lines. Even though I haven't used it again (obviously), the results continue to please me every morning when I put my makeup on. I don't have to go back and wipe half of it off to get it out of the wrinkles (well - not as much as before). I will probably continue to use it after my skin fully recovers from this ordeal. It may sound crazy - but that is how much it reduced my lines!
BUT - one thing I will do - is I will test it on a little tiny area (in the same area where the breakout occurred) before I apply it on my whole face again. I'm hoping that the reaction I had was due to my face just not being used to the product. Perhaps it is a stronger peel than what I originally thought. The instructions DO stress to NOT leave it on longer than the suggested time (3 minutes) and to NOT use it more often than instructed. They also say that those w/ sensitive skin should only leave it on 1 minute - especially the first time. I left it on the full 3 both times I used it. Maybe my skin is more sensitive than I thought.
IN CONCLUSION - I stand by my original review - the peel definitely did what it claimed - at least for me. BUT I wanted to add this WARNING: It may cause you to break out (or whatever happened to me). OR it could have something in it that people are allergic to. I'm still not sure. BUT, if you have tried other peels and not gotten the desired results, I would recommend this one - but only if you test it on a small area of your skin first!
FYI - I have dry skin. It is not oily at all - nowhere. It is very very dry. So this might work fine with no bad effects for someone with less dry skin. Also, this product is not exactly cheap - $90 for approx. 1 oz. which is supposed to last at least 6 weeks (one application per week) although I think mine will last longer. Lastly, if you do get it, I would recommend either also purchasing the after peel balm OR another balm type ointment because your normal moisterizer could irritate your skin right after the peel. I don't think EDS carries Remede products. I got mine at www.blissworld.com.
