I have facial skin redness (maybe mild rosacea) that seems to persist no matter what. Anybody know how to fix this problem? I've heard certain laser might be the only thing, but are there any creams or products? And anybody know what laser?
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Hi Kakarot,
Welcome  . My mom has rosacea and a product that has almost eliminated the redness is skinceuticals phyto corrective gel. it is amazing the improvement to her skin. on better days, there is no redness at all.
I would also suggest using sensitive/mild skin care regime. I am sure the other ladies on this forum will have more suggestions. |

Hi
Here are the "don'ts" if you have rosacea:
No cleansers or moisture products with detergents in them. Use a mild, ph balanced cleanser like Rosehip seed cleanser from DianaYvonne.com
No AHAs until the redness improves, and then stick to occasional use of mandelic acid. BHA is okay. No manual exfoliation with scrubs, etc.
Many rosaceans are irriated by chemical sunscreens; if you think this applies to you, stick to the physical sun blocks. (Chemical sunscreens can increase the heat within the skin and heat exacerbates rosacea.)
Many rosaceans are sensitive to alcohol in skincare products. Pay attention to that.
Use tepid water to wash your face (not hot).
Products that are helpful: cp serum and emu oil (I recommend Ultra emu oil from LB Processors...also available by special request fromwww.skincarecentral.biz.) |

thanks for the tips. Heard Epidermal Growth Factor can help, as well as Horse chesnut, licorice extract, and green tea extract, and azelaic acid.
And other suggestions / ideas on anything?
So I should completely stop using microdermabrasion cloth? Was told it was good for skin. So now I dunno. Also heard Glycolic acid was good for redness, now I dunno again. |

| I would stop with the microdermabrasion cloth. I used mine for a while and it made my face red with little spider veins. Then when I saw a plastic surgeon he told me that it was really bad for people like me, pale sensitive skin. I did 6 IPL treatments also called (Fotofacial, Photofacial) but make sure that it is IPL because several salons market theirs as IPL when they are not. Also, salons cannot give deeper IPL's that are needed for broken capillaries and such. Only a dermatologist or PS can. It is tempting to go with a salon because they are cheaper but there is a reason why as well. The are not true IPL's and are not as a effective. I would contact a doctor first. The 6 IPL's that I did (at a medical facility) were worth it. They did not remove wrinkles (salons claim that they will), they did not remove pigmentation but they DID remove redness and small spider veins. This is why I did them to begin with. My skin is far less red than before, I would say a 60-70% improvement at least. I also use Dr. Haushcka products on my face and this helps with any remaining redness. |

I'm not sure what the deal is on the other side of the Atlantic, but here in the U.S. a nurse or nurse practitioner can perform IPL treatments.
In most med-spa's, there is a dermatologist or p.s. for overall consults and for treatments like Thermage, etc., but once IPL is prescribed, it is a nurse practitioner who performs it. Treatments like IPL are often far more affordable at a med-spa and just as effective. |

She is also going to be selling CP's etc but you'll have to ask her when those are available if you don't see them on the site yet. |

Kakarot--it was extremely quick the results, we were both so surprised...i would say maybe 3-4 days. rosacea had made her face reddish for ages and it was very strange to see it normal again. she and i were very happy  . I am still trying to figure out the magic of the phyto corrective gel--it's truly like a green magic potion! |

| I think the phyto+ has kojic acid in it and the phyto corrective gel doesn't. For me, the kojic acid irritates my skin (sensitive, reactive skin prone to rosacea). |

Well I ordered the phyto corrective to try and aside from that I'm gonna try pycnogenol, alpha lipoic acid, grapeseed extract and fish oil unless anyone can think of any reason why these may not work or help at all. I'm thinking they'll help with inflammation.
Also, the IPL seems like it's probably the best idea, but I need to save up a little money I think. How much does it cost and how many treatments before you actually see positive results? And any downtime or redness immediately after treatment? Thanks. |

I live in Vancouver and the last time I saw a dermatologist he said that using laser would just make a heck of a mess...that was 10 years ago. Now I'm on the lookout for peoples opinion on the cost and effects of IPL  |

Before purchasing the corrective gel, i was deciding between it and the phyto plus. I read up on the difference between the two, and it seems the phyto corrective gel is more mild than the phyto plus--like Poco says about kojic acid. I have not looked at the ingredients myself, but from my readings it seems the corrective gel is more beneficial for irriated/rosacea skin and while it does have lightening properties, the phyto plus is better for sun spots and acne scars. Someone please correct me if i am wrong.
Karkarot--i really do hope the phyto corrective gel works out for you. please keep us updated . |

Hello Kakarot,
The best thing I have seen for Rosacea, and the erythema that goes along with it, is the use of Seabuckthorn internally and externally. Here is a really good web site that has great information for both acne and chronic rosacea.

I have had several testimonials that show the effectivness of this product combination, opposed to only using external products. |

| would glycolic peels help if mild like 10 % used over time or would they just irritate and therefore make things worse for one with very sensitive skin? Seems like they may enhance collagen synth and therefore be a good idea long run but I dunno. |

Glycolics are usually not a good idea.
Ice Elements has a time released natural glycolic in a skin souffle that most sensitive skin types can handle. If you think you want to go in that direction you can hop over to the Ice Elements message board and ask the owner or the esthetician directly if they would recommend it for you.

I have had the V - Beam with a laser specialist in Washington, DC. It made a huge difference. Redness is decreased by 75%. There was no down time ~ I went to work the next day and looked fine. I have had four treatments.
Sunscreen is a must.
I had a very negative experience with Glycolic Acid. |

Hey newbie here!
I too suffer from rosacea (diagnosed about a year ago)...Though mine is more of an oily skin type. If your skin is more oily than dry then do not try Zenmed as I so stupidly did! After about 3 days I had broken out in a yellow pus-filled rash all over my jawline, nose and upper-lip...My skin stung so bad and really hurt for days after (took about 1 week to totally settle down). I have tried grape seed extract at 95% purity and pycnogenol at 85%...helped a little with my occular symptoms but that's about it! I stay away from all the usual triggers: sulphates, benzoyle peroxide, lotions/creams, anything harsh/abrasive, bismuth oxychloride...oh and sunlight  duh! Want to try fotofacials, but right now it's just very mild cleansers for oily skin, my metrogel and twice weekly Dermalogica clay masks...That's about all I think!  |
