For some reason, it seems that people choose their shampoo more based on the smell then they do when choosing skin care products. What is everyone's favorite shampoo fragrance? I mean, if the ingredients were ideal & if it was sulfate-free, what would you want it to smell like? |

Wow Darren it sounds like your about to take on a massive undertaking! You're right I think a lot of women do choose hair products by scent, but quality of the product is still most important, at least to most. In other words, I think most women would choose a great shampoo/conditioner with a less attractive scent over a poor shampoo/conditioner with their favorite scent. I know I would anyways.
What I have always wanted from a company is to come out with basic formulas, say in volume enhancing, deep moisture, clarifying, etc. but give each type different scents to choose from. It is so frustrating to me to find a great shampoo/conditioner that works for me but only comes in say apple, which I personally don't care for, and then to see that the same company makes their volumizing version (which I would never buy since I have a ton of hair) in a scent I love. Does that make sense? I guess if I was creating my own line it would look something like this:
Volumizing S/C
Deep moisture S/C
Clarifying S/C
etc...
All available in your choice of scent: citrus, herbal, fresh, etc.
That way people also have the option of mixing and matching too (say a clarifying shampoo and deep moisturizer with the same scent). I would also give a variety of scent options as most girls, including me, love to vary our scents. Well, I hope that was at least a little bit helpful! |

Great thread! I'm sure this one will get lots of comments. I agree that scent does have alot to do with the products we choose. There are psychological, emotional and physical responses to particular fragrances so obviously scent plays a vital role in our lives. The fragrance someone prefers also says much about them. But of course we also want performance and we want the products to be a reasonable price (this being very subjective). Just the other day I was in my health food store picking out a shampoo. Now I loved the fruity scents of one particular line (Nature's Gate Organics) but I had already tried them out and while I did love the fragrances I was looking for something different. So I chose a Druide shampoo instead for its ingredients and less favourable scent. Ultimately I'd like to have both, great scent and great results but until then my search continues.
As for my fragrance preference I cast my vote under other because I tend to prefer a scent that has a bit of everything. My favourite perfume blend when mixing my EOs is Jasmine, Sandalwood, and Grapefruit which I think would be a great shampoo or body wash scent. I really like it when citruses and florals and greens and woods blend together - it's a complete sensory delight! |

I agree with TAM, I think most woman will choose great ingredients over fragrance. I am currently using Ojon, which I love as it's very hydrating and leaves my hair shiny and healthy looking, but does not smell all that great! It's not awful or anything, just not that "good enough to eat" smell! I love fruity fragrances, but I love great looking hair more, so will stick with the Ojon! |

GREAT thread Darren!! I hope this means that PSF is expanding into haircare!!! Here are my thoughts on shampoo fragrance:
I voted for the fruity, non-citrus fragrances. Right now one of my absolute favorite shampoos is Honeydew Hairwash from Alba Hawaiian. It smells really juicy, which I just love. Another one of my favorite shampoos right night is Pureology's Volume shampoo. This one has more of a rich sandalwood/aromatherapy smell, and it really boosts my mood. Lastly, I really love gourmand-type fragrances like coffee, chocolate, caramel, etc. Hope this helps!! |

Like manslayerliz, I really love the gourmand scents, like vanilla, caramel and chocolate. Tangerine and basil are also favourites. |

I definitely vote for fruity first, followed by Citrus. However, it shouldn't be too overly perfumed smelling ... just a nice light scent. I've smelled some of those drug store shampoos and some are way too much! My favourites right now are the AG line ... they have really nice scents and then I have some stuff that smells like Strawberry Daquiri. Yummmm! |

Remember that shampoo called Timotei. It smelled like sweet honey. Mmm... It didn't do a good job at cleaning my hair though. But that scent was incredible. |

Actually so far my favorites shampoo smell are the Dove shampoos/conditioners. I've used a lot of others and am currently using John Masters but I still wished my shampoos smelled like Dove. I also like how the Dove scent lingered in my hair. I really like my John Masters Citrus Detangler and the Honey + Hibiscus but those smells don't linger (even when I use the Detangler as a leave-in) so in that case I could care less what it smells like as long as it's good for my hair. |

Well, we are looking into it... It's just in the research stages right now. Not sure if it's something I really want to get into, although the science behind it is quite similar to what we are used to. I was just bouncing ideas off you all...just seeing what people look for in a shampoo fragrance. I personally have about 5 different shampoos that I switch between, based on what mood I'm in that day! LOL! Maybe I'm just crazy! |

My vote goes for Fruity Scents like Apple, Passionfruit, Peach, Berry. As long as it's fresh and not sticky sweet fruits like Mango/Coconut/Cherry. Actually I really love Herbal Essences for the smell alone.
Not particularly keen on shampoos with heavy floral/perfumistic smell like Kerastase. |

I just voted and it looks like even though only 12 people have voted so far, "fruity" is ahead with 50% of the votes. Well, I HATE fruity smelling shampoos and/or body care products. I simply won't buy them. My shampoo has to smell fresh/clean. Regardless of how well a shampoo works, if I don't like the scent, I won't continue to use it. I recently purchased a bottle of "Pureology Volume" shampoo (the pink bottle) and I found the smell to be so disgusting and overpowering that I had to give it away. This just goes to show how individual we all are. The nose knows! |

Hahaha, I hear what you're saying, seekingHG!! To tell you the truth, when I first used the Pureology Volume shampoo, I was stunned by how much I hated the smell!! I thought that I wasted $20, but after I used it another time or 2 I found the smell was really growing on me, and now I actually crave it! So strange, right? |

I voted fruity, but I really don't buy something based on scent. I buy it if I think it will be beneficial for my hair. Having said that, I think my favorite thing I've used that scented my hair was Philosophy Falling in Love 3-in-1. It has blackberry, vanilla, and floral notes. I prefer warm, musky scents. |

I just wanted to add that strongly artificial scents put me right off a product. I'd rather have a very natural scented one. |

I chose fruity. I was thinking along the lines of strawberry or raspberry, but not a sickly sweet smell--something more clean and fresh. Actually, though, I really don't care what my shampoo smells like...as long as it's not repulsive! If it's sls-free and can get rid of product build-up without drying out my hair, chances are I'll use it |

I would like to see a sulfate free shampoo that is only scented with pure essential oils. |

I voted for citrus but, honestly, I really can't handle anything that is strongly scented. I will smell a shampoo or conditioner in the store and put it back if it's too strong -- no matter how many great reviews it gets. It's funny how some people want to smell their shampoo all day long. If's a strong artificial smell, it gives me headaches. |
