I am getting the Avene Ystheal for my eyes (I had a look at the Aussie prices and as usual they are way more expensive than US sites so I'll order from overseas).
I also have fine lines above my upper lip which bug me.
I was wondering which Avene product would be good for that?
Thanks.

I've been looking on the Avene site and was wondering about using the Ystheal Gel with retinaldhyde or Eluage concentrate around my eyes or lips.
I have been looking at the Avene Rich hydrating Cream as my skin is dry.
I have quite sensitive skin which is prone to dryness.
If you have used any of these products please let me knw what you think their suitibility would be for my skin.
I am very keen on the Ystheal Eye Cream but I didn't know if that would be too weak for around my lips.
Thanks.

Hi Emma2006 - If you intend to put any treatment on your lips and not just around them, bear in mind that the stratum corneum (outer layer of skin) is thinnest on the lips than any other place besides genitalia. So it's important not to use anything too harsh. Also, the skin around the eyes has much less underlying fat than other parts of the face and needs gentler treatment. I use Avene Ystheal Contour des Yeux on both areas. But if you're going to limit application to just above the lip, outside of the vermilion border, any of the retinaldehyde products would be fine -- you just have to determine the strength you can tolerate without causing too much dryness. I think a retinoid product will do a better job at reducing lines than a straight moisturizer, but using both wouldn't hurt if your skin tends to be dry.
I'm curious about the Eluage line too because I like all of the Avene products I've used so far. From what I can tell, the gel and cream can be used in tandem for best results, and the cream contains hyaluronic acid which is a humectant and plumps the skin. I may try these myself this winter when I run out of Ystheal Emulsion and Contour des Yeux. |

Thank you very much for that.
I didn't know that about lips.
I will get the eye one and use it above my lips too - I'll see what results I get. I might need to up it but my skin can be sensitive so I think it is sensible to start gently.
can I just ask you about the dreaded crinkleys I've read about. Did your eyes go all crinkley using the Avene - I've read a lot about people having wrinkly skin for a few weeks before it gets better.
My lines aren't that bad and I need to know if this might happen so I don't freak out.
Thank you. |

Hello again - No! That's why I like Avene Ystheal. I get crinkly with SkinCeuticals and prescription retinoids, but not this product. Nevertheless, it smooths and tightens my eye area. I hope it works for you too.
Contour des Yeux is an emollient cream. So is the Emulsion for face. If I weren't tempted by Eluage for the coming winter, I'd probably try Ystheal Cream for face instead of the Emulsion for those cold, dryer months. |

Sorry for all my questions - if my skin is smooth everywhere else (apart from those areas of concern) do you think I should use the Avene Ystheal all over or could I just use the Rich Hydrating Cream that I'm keen to get?
I suppose I'm asking does retinol help your skin if you haven't got wrinkles yet?
Thank you.

I'm 54 and use Ystheal all over my face. I don't have any wrinkles or folds yet, just fine lines around my eye area. My upper eyelids are getting a bit droopy, but because of my particular bone structure they're not bad looking, thankfully.
You could use it as a spot treatment for problem areas if you don't want to use it all over your face (I don't know your age).
When I was in my mid-to-late 30s, my skin started to get dry and crinkly at times and "11s" started to form between my brows. I also developed a bit of adult acne. I began using prescription retinoids but couldn't tolerate them. It was glycolic acid products that worked best for me to remove crusty skin and diminish fine lines. In my mid-to-late 40s, I finally found OTC retinoids that I could tolerate (MD Forte Rejuvenation Lotion and various Roc products, both of which also contain AHA). These really helped further refine my maturing skin's texture and tone.
Retinoids diminish or even get rid of lines, firm (tighten) the skin around my eyes, and help keep freckles at bay (as long as effective sunscreen is used). I couldn't live without them, and even though I can only use mild ones sparingly, I credit them and sunscreen for keeping my skin looking so good for so long. |
