I wear a pedometer to keep a track of distance walked during the day.
I also wear a heart rate monitor during my power walk.
When it's a hot day it really irritates me if I'm not going as fast as I should be and it keeps beeping at me.
Any other tips?

I usually just go the gym and rely on the monitors on the machines.
How about using a stop watch? I know it's old fashioned but it won't beep you and you can keep track of the amount of time you spent going from A to B. |

Exercise should feel wonderful. The whole spirit lifts when the body stretches and performs to its complete ability. However, exercise and fitness have come to be related to unlikable work, effort, and inconvenience in our culture. I think that's a shame. The types of chemicals that are made and released in our bodies when we eat and exercise are related to how we feel when we are doing these activities. If we are happy and relaxed, our bodies create beneficial transmitters/chemicals (e.g., ones that balance serotonin). If we are stressed and anxious, we actually create toxins. That's why I believe that we should take a less-regimented approach to fitness.
Think of "exercise" as enjoyable but necessary time for yourself--to rejuvenate, balance, create, release... Instead of saying to yourself, "I will now run 3 miles in 46 minutes," just run. Run freely, and enjoy your body working, enjoy breathing while you run, enjoy the space you are in. Run until you don't feel like running, then walk until you are ready to run again. Push yourself, but not to the point of pain. When you're ready to stop, just stop.
I used running as an example, but this applies to any exercise. Also, exercise all day, every day, but don't think of it as work. Think of it as mini breaks to release stress and feel good. For example, if you work at a computer all day, get in the habit of stopping periodically to stretch while doing a couple of deep breaths, to tighten and release various muscle groups, to take a short brisk walk.
Find physical activities that resonate with you and make time to do them regularly. Join a dance class (I'm a dance instructor, so this is biased Form a hiking group. Practice yoga, which is amazing for holistic wellness.
Best wishes, Jeannine

Drink lots of water.
Reduce the portion sizes of your meals (I lost 10 lbs by just doing this!!!)
I take the stairs whenever possible, over the elevator.
I try to make it to the gym at least twice a week and practice (I do roller derby) at least twice a week.
I'll tell you one thing...what made the most difference for me was the eating portion of my routine...reducing portions and cutting out the snacking makes a HUGE difference! |

If you don't feel like working out, but need to, to work out for ten minutes. Usually, once the ten minutes are up, you're feeling so good and energetic that you continue on for a full workout. If you don't continue, at least you got ten minutes in. |

I work out first thing in the morning (just to get it overwith) and drink lots of cold water (you burn calories because your body has to heat the water up in order to use it). One more thing, eat slowly. It takes about 20-30 minutes for your body to realize that you're full. That will help you limit your portions and not over-eat. |

I wonder if this is the cause of exercise 'filling you up' so that your not hungry after your done. Hmm, interesting. I may need to start exercising ...and in the morning before food as well. I've got a bit of weight to loose. |

dont think about it or "plan" it -- just do it. i found that i skipped most of my workouts because i planned them ahead of time and when it came to the time to go do them i was like "nah ill do it tomorrow im too tired today." routines can break you or discourage you too cause it adds a lot of expectations and pressure when u dont achieve them (again thats my personal experience).
make 'activity' (vs. 'exercise') a part of your every day life.. not as a "have to"
drink lots of water
sweat a lot
focus on endurance, not pushing hard and burning yourself out shortly after |

I love doing Pilates almost everyday...Used to jog/walk but quit that because I really can't stand to sweat! Pilates is very low/no impact and relieves stress very well. I also drink lots of water (flavoured that is...cause I can't stand to drink too much water either! ) I try very hard to eat well but am not always successful...darn Cherry Garcia ice cream... |

- Exercise first thing in the morning on an empty stomach (if weight loss is your goal).
- Take Power Yoga and Pilates classes.
- Go running.
- Daily exercise is best. |

Jeannine, you're the best! I was just about to skip the gym today because I felt obligated to go and didn't really want to. Now you make me want to go and enjoy it! |

I literally make myself get up and do my bodysculpt every day, if I don't I feel bad. I also walk on the treadmill twice week or if I miss my bodysculpt show. It comes on at the same time every morning so it makes me more disciplened. I also do yoga and stretch, plus pilates when I don't do my show. I drink a half gallon of water plus daily and take vitamins. My son in college went and joined the gym cause he said if I can get in shape at 44, he can do it at 20, and he played football and hockey. I love the compliments, hate that I have to do it. |

Best tips? Don't phone it in. Don't do the same thing day in and day out on autopilot and then wonder why you don't get results. Have a plan. Have a goal, even if it's just "have fun".
Oh, and this one won't be popular, but don't waste time doing 20 reps with the pink dumbbells. You will not turn huge and bulky if you challenge yourself with some real weight. Even boys have to work like dogs and usually get some drug help to get huge and bulky. Drives me nuts to see women standing there doing tricep kickbacks with 2.5 pound bits of nothing and thinking that's doing something. Your average purse weighs more than that. |

I have thought exactly the same thing.
I guess everybody has their own ideas on working out, and rightly so, but it does make me smile when I see a woman who has been doing 1 lb biceps curls in the gym leaving carrying an overstuffed gym bag which must weigh at least 10 lb.
Well, I'm sure I've done more than my fair share of silly things in the gym myself I do get some strange looks at times. |

I have found the only thing I will stick to, and will actually push myself at, is swimming.
Sadly I can't seem to get up early enough to do it in the morning before work... this is my next goal, as I know this does work.
I find this is the only exercise that works most muscles and is low-impact too - I have heaps of trouble with my knees popping off alignment if I run too much |
