| I'm new to the forum so this recipe may be common knowledge to you guys but I needed to share that I have been using a combination of 1:3 tea tree oil/emu oil on my super sensitive/reactive, combination 20 something year oil skin for the past month, and I haven't had a break out yet (knock on wood...) This is incredible for me, since i typically have consistant cystic acne breakouts, black heads and white heads (yuck, sorry...). I apply the emu and tea tree oil after washing my face, normally twice daily. I dab some tea tree oil just on my problem areas (the sides of my face and my forehead) every few hours. I'm guessing this works because the ant-inflammatory emu oil of absorbs deeply in the skin with the tea tree oil, and the tea tree oil acts as strong ant-bacterial agent. Emu oil also helps broken skin (cuts/scabs etc.) heal, so if you picked at a breakout, it will help speed the recovery. If you are still struggling with acne and have skin too sensitive for benzoyl peroxide, or BP or SA didn't work for you, give it a try! |

I do not believe that combo is 'common knowledge' here, but it does make sense that it works based on what I understand about the properties about TTO and emu oil. Yen has recently posted about excellent results from a Neem(similar to TTO)/Clay Mask and Neem/Emu cleanser from a Canadian company called Earth to Body.
I have not tried any products containing emu oil yet (it always kind of grossed me out) but as I would prefer to prevent future breakouts rather than control them (or suffer the side effects from SAs or BP), I figured I would give it a shot. I don't really suffer from acne, but I am prone to clogged pores even though I am good about exfoliating properly,and am constantly searching for something to fix this problem 100%. Plus I do get the occasional zit or hormonal cyst. My parcel hasn't arrived yet, but I do plan to post results. Thank you for sharing this information! |

| Yes, I do love the Emu-Neem Soap and the Clay-Neem Treatment from Earth to Body (www.earthtobody.ca ). My skin has healed so much. I recently started using their Skin Manager (spot treatment) and the Emu Oil moisturizer. I'll need some more time with them before I post my review on those. |

| That is a great combo - especially for inflamed acne. Both the emu and the tea tree calm the skin and reduce the inflammation while fighting off the bacteria. It was the combo I used to use whenever I had a pimple that got out of control with redness and swelling. I almost forgot about it!! I never used it on my whole face - it makes sense that it would be great for sensitive skin. |

If you would rather a vegetable dirived product, you could probably substitute squalane for the emu oil as both have similar properties in how they are absorbed into the skin.

I have recently started using tea tree diluted in jojoba oil - also works well(so far...) and might be a good alternative for those grossed out by the thought of emu oil(like me  ) |

Whoa...be careful. Squalane is not a substitute for emu oil that works for oily skinned people prone to acne breakouts. (It is excellent for dry skin people not prone to breakouts.)
A better substitute for emu from the perspective of being compatible with oily problem skin is jojoba oil. It does not have the antiinflammatory properties of emu oil, but it does help prevent over-production of sebum and it is non-comedogenic.
I think the emu/TTO combo is excellent and I use it myself when I get rashes, etc.
If it makes anyone feel better, emu oil is a by product of the meat production. I know that won't make vegetarians feel any better but I thought I would mention it. |
