I have a copy of "New Beauty" magazine from Winter/Spring 2006. It describes itself as "The World's Most Unique Beauty Magazine." The whole magazine (200+ pages) talks about higher-end skincare and cosmetic surgery. It has a bunch of MDs on the editorial advisory board but I had trouble differentiating between paid advertisements and real reviews.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here subscribes to it and whether or not the recent issues were any better.

Also, what magazines/newspapers does everyone here read? I like Vogue, Marie Claire, and allure for my magazine fixes. I'll read the Chicago Trib online but I usually get my news from Yahoo! News (the Most Popular highlights).

FOr my beauty fix, I love Allure. Otherwise, I read Time and watch CNN.

My guilty girl pleasures are Allure and Lucky, even though when I read them I feel poor and unattractive. Laughing (Do people really spend that kind of money on clothes?) I also get Parents and Time.

For news I like CNN but feel like they have gotten somewhat sensationalized. My absolute favorite news show is The News Hour with Jim Lehrer on KERA, talk about strait forward and unbiased reporting....except around donation time I feel obligated to get a 65$ coffee mug.... Rolling Eyes

I have read the past 3 issues of New Beauty and am undecided. I does have some usefull information on cosmetic procedures and skincare/anti-aging. But I am not sure the skincare advice (especially when it comes to particular products ) is totally objective. Also, if you look at their advisory board guys like Dr. Perricone are on it. Now I am not making a statement about Dr. Perricone here but how likely do you think it is that the magazine will ever publish an article that is critical of one of his products? Actually it is because of New Beauty that I found EDS. I saw an ad for IS Clinical in the magazine, did an internet search which turned up EDS and while I was on the EDS website I noticed they had a forum....
I also read Allure and also do not trust them to be totally objective.
Other magazines I read are: The Economist, Yoga Journal, Yoga + Joyful Living, Skeptic and the Skeptical Inquirer. I also read the Washington Post online everyday.

I totally agree, although I enjoy the mindless reading to destress, I feel like the more aware I become about the beauty industry and the pack of lies they try to sell to women, I realize that most everything that is reviewed in the mag also gets an advertisment. Hmmmm, makes you wonder, I stopped buying things on their recommendation and now do my own research. Then again I feel like most news sources are corrupted too....

Funny! Whe Allure came out I was in my early 20's. I thought it was the most superficial magazine out there. Now guess which magazine, I read to learn about up and coming skincare? That's right Allure! Isn't it funny to see how life changes? Laughing

I saw this in a bookstore and took the postcard return thingy out because I wanted to subscribe to it. You can also get little test tubes in the mail three times a year for 75 dollars of different product. I haven't sent it out yet as I am undecided. I love allure though. I don't read the paper at all, its too depressing.

How much does a subscription to New Beauty cost? I currently subscribe to Allure, Alternative Medicine, Natural Health, body+soul.

I don't know how much a subscription is, but I paid $10.00 for a copy at the airport. I didn't feel it was worth $10.00.

I just subscribed to it. I believe it is around $80.00 U.S. for 3 years.(not sure what the yearly rat is). (also subscribed to the test tube of products as well). The few issues I have picked up I did enjoy.

I've purchased this magazine a few times & enjoyed it. It's mostly advertisements.

Here in Canada, the magazine is very expensive. I have every single one and I do enjoy reading it but when I sent them an email to ask them to explain how they come up with which product is the best, they did not want to answer that question. They basically said that it was a private/closed door that New Beauty staff have meetings on. Confused

I believe that they publish two issues a year and if you buy them seperatly they are $10 each (at least in the US). That would be $20 a year versus $30 a year for the subscription. Unless there will be more than 2 issues a year the subscription doesn't make sense.....
Confused
