I love La Mer , especially the smell. I did break out from it on my face, so used it just on my hands. I know they have an oilfree version available. If only it weren't so expensive. |
isn't that too expensive for your hand? lol, i wont spend more than 10 bucks on my hands. |
Yes, it's too expensive for my hands. That's why my fiance has put me on a skincare budget. Oh, it is my greatest weakness! |

good tip gracedhy, but unfortunately most cosmetics/skincare SA in Australia are veeeery stingy with samples so it's pretty hard to get one sample pot let alone a few of them! |

I agree that La Mer is good for dry and sensitive skin...I use it occasionally when I feel my skin becomes sensitive, it dose pretty well in keeping your skin balanced in oil and moist...So I should say it is a pretty good product, except its high price |

I have to say that I love La Mer.
When my skin is reactive ~ it calms my skin right down. It is great for my skin in winter.
I am fifty with rosacea and combination skin.
Most anti-aging products cause my rosacea to flare - up. I personally do not find La Mer to be an anti-aging product.
In my opinion the original Creme de la Mer is the best moisturizer that I have ever used; it makes my skin moist and plumped. I do not see wrinkles as they are plumped out. It does not have actives, unless Sea Kelp (algae) is an active??? But, actives tend to upset my skin ~ so it works for me.
My two favorite moisturizers are La Mer and Sisley Restorative Facial Cream.
When my skin is red and upset, the combo of Sisley Facial Mask with Linden Blossom and Creme de la Mer brings it back to normal. This is the only way that I have found to soothe my skin when it is reactive.
As much as I love La Mer, I am not sure that it is suitable for more oily skin.
My nose has blackheads, so I would rate my skin as combination, but, my cheeks are dry and my forehead is normal. |

hi charmed1, i am thinking maybe i should save la mer for future use when i turn to over 40? right now it is definitely too rich for me, yet as one of the top creams in the world, it must have done some wonders for certain people!
i love the restorative cream of sisley too, today i talked to the speicialist from paris, she said normally they put new customer on this cream, she recommended the intensive day cream for me, she suggests that i can even use that for the summer, which i doubt, coz once i applied the intensive cream my face is really shinning! it costs CAD 320, the la mer 60ml is only CAD 275 right? sisley is more expensive one. |

I think that is when I started using La Mer, when I turned forty.
Sisley Restorative Cream is one of the less expensive Sisley products, so that is a plus.
I did not use the Sisley Intensive Cream, as my skin is very reactive, so I can't comment on the Intensive Creams. (I think there is a day cream and a night cream).
Some people discount the ingredients in Sisley, but, many of the botanicals have research behind them for anti-inflammatory benefits and some botanicals/Sisley ingredients even show promise as possible skin cancer fighters! |

My mom tried it. She's a lil on the dry side. She didn't notice any effect other than just plain moisturizing, something you can get from any other moisturizer. Her conclusion: overpriced and overhyped. |

The only La Mer product and love is the tinted moisturizer. It really is everything you'd want in a TM-luminous skin, lasts all day, natural looking, non-greasy (I have oily skin). Your skin actually looks better when you use it. It has uv protection but I wouldn't use it alone w/out sunscreen underneath. It contains the usual assortment of parsol et al. Not stable & low uv protection-spf 18 I think. Other than that, it's perfect. Can't go back to foundation now-I look fake. |

TheresaL:
Sisley uses ursolic acid in their anti-aging cream:
"Ursolic acid (UA) and oleanolic acid (OA), isolated from Glechoma hederacea, inhibited Epstein-Barr virus activation induced by 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol 13-acetate (TPA) in mouse skin. The inhibitory effects were evaluated for 20 weeks. Continuous application of UA and OA (41 nmol of each) before TPA-treatment (4.1 nmol) delayed the formation of papillomas in mouse skin and reduced the rate (%) of papilloma bearing mice. Both UA and OA exhibited remarkable inhibitory activity against tumor promotion, which is comparable to the known tumor inhibitor, retinoic acid (RA). Compared to either RA or OA, ursolic acid inhibited tumor more effectively after a single application before initial TPA-treatment as shown in Figure 1. This suggests that the role of tumor inhibition by UA differs from that of either RA or OA."
From:
http://www.ursolicacid.com/inhibition.htm
Ursolic Acid is a constituent from Rosemary, which is also in Sisley's Ecological Compound.
"Inhibition of skin tumorigenesis by rosemary and its constituents carnosol and ursolic acid.

Department of Chemical Biology and Pharmacognosy, College of Pharmacy, Rutgers, State University of New Jersey, Piscataway 08855-0789.
A methanol extract of the leaves of the plant Rosmarinus officinalis L. (rosemary) was evaluated for its effects on tumor initiation and promotion in mouse skin. Application of rosemary to mouse skin inhibited the covalent binding of benzo(a)pyrene [B(a)P] to epidermal DNA and inhibited tumor initiation by B(a)P and 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA)."
"Treatment of the DMBA-initiated mice with 0.4, 1.2, or 3.6 mg of rosemary together with 5 nmol TPA twice weekly for 19 weeks inhibited the number of TPA-induced skin tumors per mouse by 40, 68, or 99%, respectively. Topical application of carnosol or ursolic acid isolated from rosemary inhibited TPA-induced ear inflammation, ornithine decarboxylase activity, and tumor promotion. Topical application of 1, 3, or 10 mumol carnosol together with 5 nmol TPA twice weekly for 20 weeks to the backs of mice previously initiated with DMBA inhibited the number of skin tumors per mouse by 38, 63, or 78%, respectively."

Thanks for the information Charmed1. I am not a scientist either but I do like to read about the science behind skincare claims. Would you know if Sisley uses a high enough percentage of these ingredients to make a difference? |

Charmed1 you may find this interesting...
I first saw this a while back and when I was on the Remergent website today it really stood out because you had just mentioned it yesterday. Remergent uses ursolic acid in their Barrier Repair cream. This is from the Remergent website:
"Merospheres.
Liposomes encapsulating ursolic acid, proven in clinical studies to prompt epidermal cells to accelerate lipid production and stimulate dermal fibroblasts to firm the collagen layer."
Here's a link to the Key Performance Ingredient page at Remergent. On the left you can also click on the link to look at their clinicals and abstracts.

TheresaL:
Thank you for the information, that is interesting
I think Remergent is a good line. Yesterday, I posted about the DNA Repair Serum that was discussed in the October issue of Allure on the EDS Products Reviews Forum. This is the line that comes from the company (AGI Dermatics) that is trying to get Dimericine approved by the FDA. Dimericine might be able to prevent skin cancer; it is awaiting FDA approval.
I am obviously interested in skin cancer; I had a basal cell carcinoma on my nose at the age of 48/49.
Thank you for the information about ursolic acid; I am going to have give the whole line (Remergent) a closer look! |

I really like the CDLM. You have to make sure you are using it right though. When you scoop some out, rub it between you hands to warm it up for a few seconds, then rub it on you face. If you do it right, it almost feels like you are rubbing water on your face - not greasy at all. It makes my skin so soft and helps me keep a nice glow. |

Kearm i did exactly the same thing as you described, my cheeks were totally ok, but after one week's use i got breakouts on my forehead. |

I've tried their cleanser, toner, creme de la mer, face serum, and body lotion. I thought the cleanser was a bit too drying for me and it really irritated my skin. The toner didn't seem to do anything at all. The only 2 that I kept repurchasing were creme de la mer and the face serum as they worked well for me. Creme de la mer was very very rich and since I lived in a very hot and humid country I had to use it very sparingly (otherwise I ended up get congested pores all over my face) and I only used face serum at night. As for the body lotion, it was very moisturizing but it was way too expensive for a body lotion and I used it up way to quickly so I never repurchased. |
