I made a mistake by not being specific enough in my last poll regarding the effectiveness of pro facials (such as peels and extractions) on treating and preventing breakouts. Embarassed WHAT I MEANT to ask was how effective a facial can be to truly augment the effectiveness of prescription treatments (I use Tazorac gel) and other skin caring treatments (like aspirin mask, DHCC, etc) in keeping pores and skin clear. Not simply that a facial would be a total and complete solution to treating acne by itself.

If you respond please feel free to let me know what all treatments you use aside from facials.

So sorry about that and if you posted on my last poll, please post again on this one if you would like.

Thanks!

I am one of the, "what was I thinking"'s I payed around 150 dollars Shock for an Aveda "tourmaline charged facial" ummm... yeah... the day after I had a breakout like never before. I knew I was in for it when I asked the esthetician what the heck a "tourmaline charged facial" was while she was starting to give it to me.( I went in for a gentle microdermabrasion like treatment, but she told me that I wasn't a good candidate for it... Rolling Eyes ) She couldn't even answer my question, she just stuttered and mumbled Confused it was just disasterous. Then I come home and google the whole "tourmaline skin care" thing and find out that there is absolutely no documented proof that a tourmaline charged anything works better than a non-tourmaline charged anything for skin care. Okay, I'm done ranting Laughing

Heh, dealated, I've felt similarly unimpressed ever since Aveda launched that line - what a bunch of overhyped marketing crap! If you're going to tout an ingredient as the be-all skincare solution, at least pick something that has something to back it up, haha.

As for me, amnis, I think facials worsen any kind of routine I have for acne - unless I do them MYSELF with products my skin is used to, and a much gentler hand and fewer steps. But generally my skin is both sensitive and acne-prone, and the combination of the multiple, new products facialists use, combined with steaming/extracting/massaging, is just more irritating than anything.

If I take care of my own skin, it does much better, and I can honestly say that most (not all) of my breakouts are either hormonal or my own damn fault (for eating poorly, for slacking on my skincare routine, or for experimenting with too many new things at once). I've never had a really good facial, though, so it may be the case that I just struck out on the two or three times I've had one done. But I'm not planning on trying it again anytime soon!
