Hi everyone,

I am starting to use this product called exfogel--which is 5% glycolic acid mixed with aloe vera. how long/often do i use glycolic acid products for? meaning, is it a treatment i would use for a straight week or once a week or something? what do you ladies do?

Also, i have been wearing sunscreen and vitamin C but am worried about being in the sun on my way to school and then walking around in the daytime. should i be avoiding the sun like a plague when using glycolic acid products?

Dr. Denese recommends using a 10-15% glycolic product daily Shock I find that a bit too much for my skin, it could be because I'm pretty young though. It would be fine to use it daily, depending on how sensitive your skin is, but I would ease youself in slowly, and start out using it every other day or every two days. If your sunblock has good protection, you should be fine outside, but make sure you reapply of course, and definitely try to avoid the sun when possible. I reocmmend wearing a hat just to be sure Smile

I think that depends on so many things Skincareaddicted; age, skin type, sensitivity, climate, what other products you are using alongside it (e.g. retinoids or microdermabrasion will make you more sensitive to chemical exfoliants). On the other hand 5% is just about the mildest one you can get. Most mature skin could handle that nightly or every other night.
What are you hoping to achieve with the acid?

Hi Molly,

I am trying to refine my pores a bit, I keep seeing more and more pores each day, it's kinda disturbing. I am not using any other skin products like retinoids or microdermabrasion.

dealated, thanks for the tips, i think i will start wearing a hat again.

If you're not using other exfoliants 5% should feel quite gentle for you.

Most of us use acids regularly to help increase cell turnover (it slows as we get older) and aid penetration of other actives plus looking younger of course, rather than as a treatment.

Just try it and work out how often your skin needs it for yourself. I don't think there are any hard and fast rules. If your skin is soft and healthy using it once a week that's great. If your using it more often and you start to flake a bit, cut back.

Thanks Molly. I was just wondering if there was a "hard and fast" rule. but if there isn't I will go by what feels right as you suggested.
