I'm having some issues receiving my gmail messages via outlook. I login to my gmail account online and see that I am receiving mail alright... it's just when I use Outlook that I have problems. There aren't any errors or anything... it's just like I am not receiving any new email. And I can send messages okay so I guess I am connecting to the gmail server alright.

Anyone ever have this kind of issue and/or know of how I can solve it?

Confused

I have a Mac so I use Microsoft Entourage instead of Outlook, but if you're not receiving, it's probably a problem with your smtp address. If you search under the Google help threads (from the home page, click on "more"), they give you step by step instructions how to set up your email through any program.

That, and the fact that if you log into your gmail account onwww.gmail.com and check your mail there, those messages WILL NOT show up in your gmail inbox in outlook express because you have 'recieved it' somewhere else. Get what I'm saying?

I have followed all of the set up directions (I never experienced a problem until yesterday...). But get this, I logged onto gmail and re-selected the enable pop setting from now on (or something to that effect) in order for my Outlook to accept my gmail emails. When I opened Outlook viola! it worked... I started receiving emails again. I finally did some more research and I read somewhere on the gmail community forum that others have had similar problem. Perhaps it is something google is working on (the reason gmail is in Beta)...

Yes, I get you. But why wouldn't my messages have shown up in my Outlook inbox BEFORE I logged into my gmail account? I could understand the emails not arriving in Outlook if I had checked it AFTER I checked my gmail account. Also, I thought the way POP worked was that you choose to receive your emails through a client like Outlook and that you can select the option to have copies saved on the gmail server... that if you delete or read an email message on Outlook it won't show up as deleted or read on gmail then b/c it doesn't synchronize (as IMAP does).Confused

Thanks for your thoughts!

I think it wasn't showing up because it just wasn't getting forwarded to your Outlook account, like girldelvov said. As for it always showing up in Gmail, I think that's because Gmail doesn't erase/remove email off their server just because they've been opened somewhere else. But I know what you mean, I use to work for a place that used Iplanet and once I'd open something in Entourage, it would be "missing" once I logged into my Iplanet account through their site. Since Gmail is all about not having to delete anything, that's probably why they don't mess with anything.
