After I wash my face I always use my ACV toner. Lately, for the past 2 days or so when I use the toner, my skin stings. Does anyone know what this could be or mean? The only thing I can think of is that my skins dry and maybe cracking like opening up, but that's not the case, my skin seems decently hydrated since I use my HA serum and emu oil. So I'm a little clueless on what this could mean.

This happens to me to, stinging after I apply toner. I think I narrowed down what it is. I never experienced it BEFORE I started using MMU. So, I'm not sure how but even after taking off my MMu and cleansing, my Proactiv toner still stung. It wasn't causing damage to my skin, it was just uncomfortable. Something in the toner (I think it's either the witch hazel or glycolic acid) reacts with whatever the MMU deposits on my face. So, on the days I wear MMU I use a botanical toner (Juice Beauty face mist) and it doesn't sting. The ACV toner might be too acidic. Try using a different toner after cleansing and see if it makes a difference.

I posted a topic about this a few months back but I'm just too lazy to go find it and copy the url! Laughing I will say, though, that no one seemed to believe me that it was the MMU causing the burning, they seemed to think it was my Proactiv cleanser. But I can say with certainity that it's the MMU-toner combo. I can't explain the WHY. Oh well!

It just occurred to me that I assumed you're using MMU. Embarassed If you're not, are you using any sunscreens?

I agree with violetanne that your current toner just might be too acidic for you skin right now. Try a milder toner for a few days and see if your skin doesn't feel better. The Juice Beauty one violetanne mentioned is a good one, and so is the Oxytoner from Zenbiotic. You can even go milder and just try Grape Water from Caudalie or O2 spray.

I think your stinging could be caused by any of the following:

use of retinoids
use of a cleanser that's too harsh (contains detergents and/or too high of ph)
overuse of AHA's

And I personally think that your MMU could have something to do with it. I tried to use MMU but couldn't because my skin would end up too dry and irritated. My research showed that some MMU's use irregularly shaped particles (such as mica that is in small sheets instead of spheres). Lower cost products tend to use lower priced ingredients. Anyway the irregular shaped particles can cause microtears in the skin which results in inflammation. I believe this explains what happened to my skin when trying to use MMU. I had to stop.

No I'm not using any MMU's. The toner I've been using is the same one I've been using all along which is the ACV Toner. I use sunscreen ALL the time.

I have an inclination. I NEVER wear makeup, but that past weekend I got my makeup done at MAC for a wedding. Could my skin just not like having that much stuff on my face Question

It's been a few days and now it's gone away. I do have times every now and then when the toner does sting though, it may be that the skins a tad dry *shrugs*
