Paging all hair care specialists: H*E*L*P!!!!! Each day I'm seeing an increasingly alarming amount of hair in my shower drain and everywhere else. I talked to my doc and she didn't seem concerned. Thyroid and other hormones seem normal. Even my dh is commenting on the amount of hair loss. What should I do? I've been through the EDS archives but I need solid tips and reassurance. I'm scared here!
I've started using Nioxin for 3 weeks - should I continue with this? How long?
What else should I do?
Please help..... |

Are you on any medications?
Certain commonly prescribed drugs, such as beta blockers, are known to cause hair loss but doctors rarely mention this as they don't consider hair loss important |

No change in diet, medication or stress (latter medium-high). This has been going on for about a year - people keep telling me that it'll pass but it seems to be getting worse. Anything I can do besides reducing stress? Hair mask?? Special shampoo? Supplements? I don't think it's genetic either as the women in my family don't lose their hair. (I feel like tearing my hair out...but a resisting that impulse, considering the circumstances! ) |

Well, I know hairloss can occur with age, however I don't know how old you are. Try using a shampoo with rosemary in it-- it's supposed to promote hair health. I use one calle Aloe- 80, it's an organic shampoo free of sulfates. It also has lemon oil in it which is also supposed to be good for the scalp.
May I ask what sort of daily routine you put your hair through? It may be a good idea to shampoo every other day. What sort of daily shamp and condish do you use? |

Also, try to avoid combing or brushing your hair when it's wet because this causes a lot of breakage. Use a wide toothed comb to get the tangles out when you get out of the shower. HTH! |

agent-oo-cat, I've had my share of hair loss and cont. to do so. Mine seems to have been exacerbated by surgery, the anesthesia to be exact. It's happened 2x now w/ 2 separate surgeries and unfortunately I'm going to have yet another surgery next week. If you look on the DIY thread about hairloss there are alot of great suggestions. Personally- I take Hair and Nail vitamins from Andrew Lessman, use organic shampoos and conditioners and apply hair masks and oils. It has lessened the rate of loss and improved the condtion. Im 52 yo and while my hair doensn't look like it did 20 yrs. ago it still looks good. I would not w/o allthe help I've gotten off EDS and YTF forum-ask for MIA. Good luck. |

Thanks nomoreneckpain and Violetanne. I wash every other day. I used to use Aveda volumizing but now I'm using Nioxin for thinning hair. I'm in my mid-30s. What is the YTF forum and what does MIA stand for (apart from missing in action)? |

OOCat--I too have thinning hair, and I've been using volumizing or thickening shampoos and conditioners. What really helps the situation though, are dry shampoos. I'm not talking about using the dry shampoo to clean your hair, though you could, but rather to volumize it. Interestingly enough, I just read an article written by Jessica Simpson's stylist who reports that he uses dry shampoo to volumize Jessica's hair all the time, and it's the biggest secret going in Hollywood these days--next to the hair extensions, of course. Anyway, a very good brand is Klorane dry shampoo. You can google that, or if you'd like, go to Amazon to purchase it. Folica.com also carries it. By the way, I have blonde hair and my "oily" scalp shines through my hair because it's thin. The dry shampoo corrects this problem immediately. HTH! |

Try Triaxon. If you're in Canada, you can get it at the Shopping Channel (only product with a 6 month money back guarantee). www.tsc.ca
I've been losing hair too. I've been waiting for a good Triaxon showstopper. |

would you have an interest to take my advice.
i am a chinese, and you could try this combo to improve your hair growth.
equal weight of all the ingredient (excluding sugar and peanut)
black seasame(heated in a pan, adds no oil, until it smells like canbe eaten)
walnut(peel off its hard shell),then is processed as seasame.
you could add sugar and peanut to get a better flavor.
when all the pretreatment is done, mix and mill them in the blender.
and after minutes, you will get a magic creamy powder that will make your hair more glow, more healthy, more and more.
eat it at a certain dosage.
it canbe added to milk ,soybean milk,or eat it directly.
i hope it can help you to have a beautiful hair.
remember to eat it regularly.and it is called food therapy which is based on Chinese traditional medicine.
it is a proved recipe, and proven by millions of people |

agent-oo-cat, Sorry for the shorthand: YTF forum is yes they're fake reachable throughwww.spectacularskin.com, scroll down to ytf beauty and skin forum. Mia is a poster who was nice enough to em me with a long list of products that she used to help with her hair loss. Since you are only in your early 30's, I'd see a doctor to see if anything medically is exacerbating this prob. Also no coloring or hi-lighting until your hair's better and sometimes you have to cut a bunch off to start off fresh. Carekate has posted about her hair prob. and has a DIY serum, and I think Molly too. Good luck. Feel free to em me if you want to. Janet. |

the way i said yesterday is only for the glow of hair.
and the way to help hair growth is:
use ginger massage the scalp, until your scalp feels hot. |

My personal tips:
1. Don't use hot hot water to wash your hair
2. Change the shampoo brand regularly
3. use only little conditioner to detangle the hair (don't apply on the scalp)
4. Brush/Comb your hair more frequently (don't use plastic ones)
5. place your head upside down when washing your hair (I believe hair loss is related to poor blood circulation)

Does anybody have the link to either Carekate or Molly's hair serums? It's not indexed and I sort of got lost in the original DIY thread. Thanks a million in advance. |

Many of the women in my family who have given childbirth (inlaws too) complained of losing hair after giving birth. It's from all the hormonal changes in your body and all of their hair grew back within a year. I'm not sure the Triaxon was the reason your hair grew back. I've researched female hair loss extensively and so far the only thing that's been proven to work is minoxidil to actually re-grow hair. If you go to baldspot.com there is a spray product that you can purchase which seemed to help me, and it's easy to use, but it's rather pricey. The good things is they tell you right up front if you haven't noticed any improvement in 3 months I think it is, they tell you it will most likely not work for you so you won't have to be wasting your money. You can color your hair with it, perm it, whatever, BUT the good doc that came up with this product, and I talked to him personally, does NOT want you to use mousse but anything else for the hair is ok. The only other thing he told me was to wash my hair every other day and that was it. You should check out the website 00-Cat and see what you think. |

Loosing hair is a concern for anyone. At one time I lost some weight and my nutrition wasn't the best...I lost so much hair....that my doctor sent me to a nutrionist. I hope you find something that works! Best wishes! |

I had sudden extensive hair loss three months after starting birth control pills. The hair loss was frightening - chunks of hair coming off when i ran my fingers through my hair. All tests came back normal and the doctors had no other advice for me except to say it was stress and I should try to de-stress. Anyway, as a last resort I decided to stop the birth control pills as I had read that any factor linked to hair loss should be investigated approx. three months prior to the loss itself - somethinhg to do with the hair cycle. It has been two months since I stopped the pills and the hair loss has disappeared. It was a slow process but it worked for me. Of course, I now have other issues without the pills but that is another story!! |

You said your hormones and thyroid levels seem normal......are they, have you gotten them actually checked.....it certainly seems hormonal in nature....I know it is normal to lose up to 100 hairs a day....I'd invest in a good detangler and soft bristle brush like mason pearson(around 100dollars).... |

have been going through the same and realised that it was anemia and iron depletion.....have been taking evening primrose oil and silica tabs everyday and iron supplements...I think I have problems absorbing iron but from everything I have seen heard and read lack of iron causes hair loss but make sure that you have that problem before supplementing as excess iron is dangerous and can actually make your hair fall out....now I have a lot of stunted hair...loads of much shorter hair that looks like I have cut it that way but I havent.....hopefully it will start to grow normally again...I have had this before ...and now realise its diet related....both evening primrose oil and silica help with hair growth and loss....I have seen a new product from DS labs that is supposed to be fab for hair growth (google DS laboratories)
they have 2 for hair loss one without that harsh ingredient (cant remember the name) and another geared towards men.....but I want to try and address my hair problems with herbs and diet ....if all else fails will resort to serums....also I read somewhere that hair falls out more in autumn ..... |

Thank you everybody for responding. I normally take evening oil of primrose and am a meat eater - so I should be ok for iron and omega-3 fatty acids. I may give the Triaxon a whirl. I feel so helpless. |

- Switch shampoo around,
- Consider wash your hair with Nexxus Aloe Rid to get rid of some hair build up once awhile.
- Try supplement Nature Bounty for Hair, skin and nail.
- Try baby shampoo
I opened up all kind of shampoos and conditioner so I used 7-10 kinds of combinations every week. |
