I believe many many of you have tried many many skincare products, and I am not surprised I have been reading the reviews for the entire day. Yes I am addicted to searching for a good product. Now, I am in searching for a light but effective facial cleanser.
I am 35, with pretty good skin that is thin, but not sensitive. I tended to apply products for the dry skin, although my T-zone was oily sometimes. I don't wear heavy makeup, no foundation at all.
I would appreciate if you can suggest a cleanser product that is milky type, non-greasy, non-dry. I don't like foaming cleanser at all. By the way, I am not a big fan of Cellcosmet & Dr. Hauschka.
Thank you! |

Some cleansing milks that get raves reviews on EDS are Caudalie's Gentle Cleanser and Decleor's Cleansing Milk. A personal favorite of mine is Primavera's Cleansing Milk as it is definitely not drying and it feels VERY light (not greasy on my combo acne-prone skin) and my skin feels super soft and CLEAN afterward. You can get it at SaffronRouge.com. |

Thanks sormuimui. I may try Primavera's Cleansing Milk. Believe it or not, I've bought three different types of cleanser within 2 weeks...does anyone know what is good about the "organic cleanser"? |

I like Burt's Bees Orange Essence cleanser. It does a really good job in removing my make-up and doesn't dry out my skin. The price is really good too. |

Hi,
I am looking for a new cleanser as well. Would you mind telling why you aren't a big fan? It's something I'm considering given the overwhelmingly positive reviews...but it would be good to hear more from someone for whom it didn't work as well.

Have you tried the Oil Cleansing Method (OCM)?
This is a link to the recipe on EDS:
www DOT essentialdayspa DOT com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=9717&highlight=ocm+method+castor+olive+oil
(sorry, since I don't post much, I can't post hyperlinks)
It's actually not greasy, despite the name and ingredients, because the oil actually helps remove grease from your skin.
I've found it to be my favorite method, by far, especially for removing eye makeup. It's totally effective, takes 10 seconds, & very gentle. Oh, and it's dirt cheap. |

what proportion of castor and olive oil do you use, o88odianao88o? Also, is it okay to add things like salicylic acid or tea tree oil to the mix?

Priscilla,
At first I used 50% Castor Oil & 50% Olive Oil, which worked well. Right now I'm using more Castor Oil,maybe 70%, and less Olive Oil (I had a big bottle of Castor Oil sitting around whereas my Olive Oil was just as expensive & was also needed for cooking ) --and this works very well too.
From what I've experienced, the ratio is not terribly important, just as long as you're using at 50% or more Castor Oil-- I think it's the main agent in cleansing (it feels 'stickier'), and the Olive Oil's primary purpose is to thin the Castor Oil out a bit. Am I getting this right? I think there are some opinions on the ideal ratio somewhere on these forums, maybe on the thread I posted above.
Also, I think adding other ingredients like salicylic acid or tea tree oil is fine, but that won't be pleasant if you want to use your mixture on your eyes -- and like I said, a big plus for OCM is that it's gentle on your eyes. |

o88odiano88o,
THanks for the fast response.
Other questions: how much do you apply to your face? do you use the rolling-palm method to apply? massage with your fingertips? could i apply with a microdermabrasion cloth or cotton gauze? it sounds messy.
many thanks for your input!

For the Oil Cleansing Method, I just put some amount between 1 teaspoon and 1 tablespoon in my hand and slather it all over my face. I don't massage it, because the next part takes care of that-- I drape a hot towel (soaked in hot water) over my face, allow it to sit for a few seconds, and then firmly wipe my face with it in 2 or 3 big strokes, which is usually enough to take off all the cleanser.
As for alternate methods of application-- I doubt anything would beat just using your hand (or pouring directly onto your face if you're really in a hurry ) , mainly because the OCM is more similar to a mask than a soap, and if you put oil on a cloth or gauze or anything like that, your cloth or whatever would absorb the oil & there wouldn't be any left to clean your face.
You're supposed to use cloth to remove the cleanser of course, and I always use a run-of-the-mill towel.
Hope this works for you Priscilla! |

Hi Priscilla,
Here you go...
The reason I refuse Cellcosmet Purifying Gel is I found a good cleanser was not necessarilly equivalent to how much I pay after I tried so many. I could be wrong lol.
Below is a quick review of the cleanser I used in the past and hope it hleps when you are looking for a cleanser.
1) H2O Sea Mineral Cleansing Cream - I actually liked it..I am not sure why I wanted to change
2) La Mer Cleansing Lotion - an ordinary cleansing lotion and I did not feel like keeping it.
3) Sisley - I liked the old version for the dry skin (Cleansing Milk with Sage). But the new version cleanser for the dry skin did not give me the a soft, silky feeling after wasking it away.
4) Avene Tolerance Extreme No-Rinse Cleansing Lotion - almost did nothing, too light
5) Lancome Foaming Cleansing Gel - a little too dry
6) Kiehls Washable Cleansing Milk - didn't like it..very greasy
7) Clarin Cleansing Milk for dry to normal skin - wanted to like the milk but I am a lazy one who does not want to learn how to use this milk properly. I didn't see the spectular results.
Clarin Water Comfort One Step Wash - a wonderful product with a light peach smell
9) The Body Shop Moisture White Cleansing Powder - it is so so, not impressive
10) Estee Lauder Perfectly Clean Splash Away Foaming Cleanser - did not feel like it was a good one
11) Estee Lauder milky cleasner - I liked it when I was in 20s.
12) EA - 2 in 1 was pretty good..unfortunately it is a foaming one
13) Shiseido - I forgot the name of the cleanser I tried..but it was very dry.
14) Cetaphil Gentle Skin - I convinced myself not to throw it away, so I used it up as a daily hand wash.
15) Orlane - the pink milk..it was a pretty good one
I was going to order Dr. Hauschka's last week, a thread on EDS stopped me coz someone complained her hair sheds lots after using Dr. Hauschka's.
Continue searching for a cleanser..it seems I am sold by Caudalie Gentle Cleanser this weekend. I realized people on this Forum have some special brands to discuss... I would really appreciate if folks could share their experience of using other brands as well. I know it sounds crazy that I could not find a simple basic face wash that motivates me to sleep early and get up early |

I see you haven't tried a couple of my favorite cleansers.
Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel and Dermalogica Ultra Calming Cleanser. Neither are foaming and both double as makeup removers although I do use a cleansing oil first if I've packed on the makeup. I've bought alot of cleansers and keep coming back to these two.
Hope this helps!

Thecake, the thread about Dr H causing hair loss was something to do with a particular ingredient that was bad for people who had thyroid problems.
If you want a nice alternative to Dr H, Jurlique cleansing cream is also very good for clearing up the pores and not harsh at all for drier skins.
The Zenbiotic cleanser is a non-foaming gel cleanser that is made up of entirely botanical ingredients, and with my easily dried out skin I am finding it to be the best I have tried (replacing the other cleanser I have used for the past 2 years). |

I have two to add to your list that are light, non-drying, no yukky stuff in them and with lovely smell and feel.
1. The Organic Pharmacy Rose Cleansing Gel - expensive, but a delight to use. I love it, love it, love it. Just finished my first bottle and once I use up their Peppermint one I got to try I will repurchase for sure.
2. Osea Ocean Cleanser (www.oseaskin.com)
This is a gel-milk cleanser (well not a milk, but not a firm gel.. ) and it was a beautiful cleanser to use when not using make-up and it is a lot cheaper than The Organic Pharmacy as well. I had a travel size and used it as a morning cleanser and would definately think about getting a full size (but only after finishing the Dr. H, Cellcoset and Babor ones I have).
Oh and I have the Burt's Bees Orange cleanser, but the smell kills me so I cannot use it. |

I have used clarins cleansing milk for years and I heard from counter lady that milk cleanser is not really cleaning the face. Is that true? Is that why I prone to get black head on nose area? |
