Hi,
What vitamin C or vitamin C+E products do people like? I have combination skin and want something to help fade skin discolorations and even out my skin tone...but without clogging my pores.

I am still new here and not as experienced but will share what I can. From what I have read - vitamin C works better when combined with vitamin E so I prefer a product that has both. I am currently testing Skinceuticals C E Ferulic and Skin Medica Vitamin C Complex (has E too). My skin is drier and sensitive so a bit different than yours. I had a flare of rosacea the first day I used the Skinceuticals C E Ferulic but subsequent days it was OK. I like the feel of the SKin Medica better - it is more like a thick serum. I don't know if that would work for you or not. Other ones that seemed popular when I asked a similar question were Vivier and IS Clinical. Also PureSkin (PSF) but this is just a vitamin C. Skinceuticals other vitamin Cs don't have E but they do have ferulic acid although I am not sure what this does exactly.

The only ISC one that I saw that had E was their Pro-heal which might be good for me but not sure for you.

With Vitamin C products you need to be concerned about stability and the ones I mention are ones that are more stable ones based on what I have read here at EDS.

So if you want one that has C and E, you could try the Vivier first since it is cheaper than the Skinceuticals.

If just C, than one of the other skinceuticals, Vivier, IS Clinical or PSF (cheapest, I think). Vivier has a C with Kinetin too which sounds interesting.

Hope others give you some more info to help. So many choices that it is overwhelming!

I'm currently using Vivant's Spin Trap ( http://www.betterhealthyskin.com/284.aspx ) which is 15% C and 0.1% E. It's quite a bit cheaper than that Ferulic and suitable for combo/oily skin. I don't find it drying, nor sticky if you wait for it to absorb and dry. I'm experiencing good skin evening and fading of my hyperpigmentation with this one, though I don't have any scar type discoloration so I can't speak for that. My only complaint about the texture is there is just a touch of that egg-whitey feel to it after it's dried, but I am using it rather lavishly. You can also buy a sample size of this fromwww.dianayvonne.com

Thanks Molly and Marie!

I had heard about Spintrap on another board...but there were some comments about a "new" formulation that dried people's skin and so was leary of trying that. It's good to know that I can buy a sample size to try it out.

Do either of you know if/where samples of the Vivier and/or Skinceuticals can be had?

I just want my face to heal and look "normal" again! Despite my compulsion to try new products these last few months, my skin looked better when I was using harsh cleansers (Neutrogena Acne Wash!) and no actives at all except sunscreen.

(End of vent)
THanks to you both for the recommendations.

Mine's a recent bottle. I think i've had it only 3 weeks to a month so it would be the latest formula. Things can dry my skin type out because I'm not oily, but this is fine for me.

What kind of applicator does this use? I hate those eye dropper bottles!

For application, I bought these after stumbling upon the idea on another board. I just think it's brilliant for those products that are water-like (i.e. Vitamin C, Mandelic Acid, DMAE) so will be transferring a portion of each into these applicators. I even bought the smaller 1/3 oz. size for travel and should be getting them shortly.

In case anyone wonders, the lady who mentioned it said they work great!

My favorite C serum by far is the Cellular Skin Rx one. Other faves here on the board seem to be Vivier, Skinmedica, and Janson-Beckett. Prices range far and wide on C. No reason to pay too much for it. Just look for l-ascorbic acid (at least 10% and if no % mentioned then pass on it), no water or if in water then encapsulated in silicone to protect from degradation, dark container to keep sun out, and a pH of around 3-3.5.
