Hi everybody,

Sorry, sorry, sorry...I know this has been discussed to death but I still don't completely get it...

Don't use Vit C and retinoids at same time because ? Is it that they increase photosensitivity or are they drying?

Can I use Vit C with AHA? So AHA first then Vit C in the morning? At night retinoid + AHA? (AHA is to dry spots)

Thank you all in advance.

It's okay to use them together, as part of an overall regimine, but they shouldn't be layered together in one application. Vit. C should be used in the morning, and the retinoid should be used at night. Vit. C has been shown to protect against sun damage, so it's good to have this on throughout the day; however, you should not wear a retinoid during daytime because of increased photo-sensitivity.

And you can use AHA (or BHA) in conjuction with both, either in the morning or night, as needed. As a matter of fact, an AHA is almost essential, because it aids in the removal of built-up layers of skin accelerated by the retinoid.

But you have to tailor all of this to your skin type. You may have to alternate nights, buffer, or do 'short contact therapy', or spot treat to suit.

And although you didn't mention it, I'm guessing you know that you have to use a good sunscreen while using these topicals.

Also, it's correct that Vit. C and retinoids are very drying, so you'll need to add a moisturizer to the regimen, and maybe a moisture masque during the week too.

And this tip is important: Wait 20 minutes after p.m. washing to apply the retinoid. Then wait another 20 minutes before following up with moisturizer.

thanks Leyel. Why do you wait 20 min before putting the retinoid on?

So, would this routine work? TIA
AM
1. Wash& tone
2. AHA (wait 3 min)
3. Vit C (wait 3 min)
4. Oil and/or moisturizer (wait 5 min)
5. Sunscreen (no wait)
6. Foundation

PM
1. Wash & tone (wait 20 min?)
2. Retinoid (every other day or so) (wait?)
3. Moisturizer
