Has anyone here ever taken L-Carnitine for weightloss?
I was just watching an infomercial (yes, yes, I know) .. well this one was by a respected Japanese company Shin Nihon Seiyaku.. anyway, it was for a suppliment they make called "Carnitine Queen", taken for weightloss. Now, I usually take these things with a grain of salt and have never even tried those billion fat-blocker, metabolism booster meds out there (very very cautious after scarey period with weightloss pills during late teen years).
Anyway, they had these two Japanese women on and did the "80-day diet" thing (though they did not exactly "diet" - mostly just took these Carnitine tabs). Anyway, one woman who started at about 74KG (about 178lb) lost about 12kg (almost 29lb).. and another young woman who started at 90-odd KG (close to 220lb) lost a whopping 20kg (48lb) over the 80 days.
They then followed them for a further 80 days and the first woman lost another 4kg and the second girl another 7kg. Now that is impressive - in anyone's books. What made me more interested in it is that Carnitine is a kind of amino acid that is a natural thing when we are younger, but it deminishes in the body as we age (um, hence those middle-aged bulges).
The Carnitine Queen tabs have a few other things in them too: L-Carnitine amino acid, Vit B (1,2,6,12), caffeine, green tea extract, Vitamin D3, citric acid iron sodium, sesame extract, dextrin, Vit E, chrome yeast, garcinia extract, calcium panthothenate, vitamin c, cayenne powder, folic acid, nicotinamide, crystal cellulose, and glycerine fatty acid ester.
Some of those things I have never heard of (some are a bit scarey sounding ) .. and of course they are EXPENSIVE ($60-odd for a month's supply)... but looking at Vitacost.com, the L-Carnitine on its own is not expensvie at all.. so that made me wonder if it is the BLEND of things that promote the weight loss or if the Carnitine on its own would work well.
Anyone tried Carnitine before? |

It may be good for many things, but you are NOT going to lose weight from taking it.... |

I've heard all sorts of weird things abour L-Carnithine. It's used to supplement cat food, for one. I haven't seen any convincing research on it though. |

Hmm.. so then I guess it was the other ingredients that spured the loss.. I knew I would find some info here! |

I'm a long distance runner and I take L-carnatine for glycogen conservation and prolonged exercise endurance. It has not done anything for my weight though. I've taken it for quite awhile. |

Yep, it helps with weightloss because it helps with carb cravings. (I am a former chocolate addict ) |

I'm training for a marathon right now, just finished running a half marathon beat my personal record. I am so glad I found another runner on this forum. I have always wanted to try Fuze!(had no idea carnatine was in it) where do you buy the stuff? |
