Calling all Retin A users - what type of foundation do you use? I have been using MMU and although I love the look I really think it has been clogging my pores big time, and I've tried EM, Alima, and BE. BUT when I try liquid foundation, by lunchtime my face is full of flaky skin, made more noticeable by the foundation i think. Does anyone have any hints/tricks for this problem??? I really want to even out my skin, but not look like my face is peeling off!!! Help! |

Hi Amy,
I use Retin A as part of my Obagi treatment and had very flakey skin when I first began. During that time I couldn't use any foundation at all because of the flakeyness, but after I got over the "worst stage" I started using tinted moisturizer and would continue applying it throughout the day (do it with a mirror to make sure it's not uneven). I've now built up the skin tolerance for Retin A now so the peeling is much less noticeable. So now I'm back to using BE and EM as my foundation when I need full coverage, when I don't, I just use EM concealer to 'patch' the uneven part.
Try just using the concealer and moisturzer if your peeling is not too severe, otherwise try to find a tinted moisturizer that suits you. |

Also, try using something like dermalogica's daily microfoliant in the mornings. |

I use EDM and like it alot. The key IMO to make any makeup look good is to exfoliate and use a really good moisturizer. I currently use SA and GA to exfoliate the old skin that Retin A leaves behind and Dremu oil to moisturize the new skin. No more flakies for me! |

I started to use the retin A every third night and that has really helped, no more flakies around my mouth. I think this is the key.
The tinted moisturizer always makes the flakies look worse in my opinion. I am using bobbi brown tinted balm, it is very moisturizing and I think looks better. The MMU i think is just too drying for me. I live in Colorado, and especially now with winter coming my skin is just too dry to use MMU.
Thanks for the tips! |
