Can anyone explain this procedure to me? I do not have mature skin, but have acne scarring- depressed scars, pits, holes, you name it. I wanted to know how dermal fillers can help me fill out those scars. I have tried a lot of things to smooth out my skin, peel, microderm, lactic acid etc.... but the scaring are quite deep, merely using these products would not help. Anyone out there can help?? |

Hi cc428 - Dermal fillers such as Restylane can be used for depressions and pits. Your doctor will first apply a numbing cream to the treatment areas. It's a bit tricky to get the right amount injected into each site, and sometimes follow-up treatments are needed if not enough has been injected at first to completely fill the depression. There's a bit of swelling at first at the injection site, so it's not always easy to tell the proper amount needed. It's probably better if the doctor applies too little rather than too much, because the filler will last for several months. Fillers diminish more quickly at dynamic parts of the face, like around the mouth and crow's feet.
The product/filler is sold by the syringe-full, so if not all is used at first, it can be stored for a few months and used up later. Each syringe is several hundred dollars, like around $500 or so for Restylane. |

Hello!
I've had restylane (hyaluronic acid) injections between my brows and in my lips....my best advice is that if you decide to do it - make sure that you get a really experienced practitioner to do it ....Also - you might want to ask that doctor remove the needle provided by the distributor and ask him or her to use a finer needle...the finer the needle - the less discomfort (in my experience) .....For acne scarring your doctor might recommend Perlane which has a thicker consistency and is great for more significant facial contouring (great for correcting pitting caused by acne)....there is nothing you have to do to prepare for the procedure...it only takes few minutes....the doctor/practitioner will inject an anaesthetic and then inject the restylane or perlane and then massage a bit to perfect the results (which are immediate)....the injectible (hyaluronic acid under the names Perlane and Restylane) is produced by the body so the system recognizes it and just absorbs it over a period of time....I know that there are other injectibles out there (collagen and fat) but I've only had experience with the hyaluronic acid - hopefully others out there will come forward and provide more info! Hope this helps.
