Just out of interest...how many of you see a dermatologist or go have a facial on a regular basis? ...and if you do; why do you do it, what do you have done and which/ what kind of products are used?
I went to the same beauty therapist for about a year. She used Decleor and MDFormulations and that's how I got into those products. I wasn't into skincare, used Nivea facewash and the regular Olay moinsturizer, and my face was in a huge mess. Very dehydrated and very sensitive. I had a series of glycolic peels once a week for 5 weeks, otherwise it was an hours facial a month. This definitley got my skin back on track. I stopped seeing her cos in the end I realised I could do a better job of my skin than she was doing, + the service was not good enough! + it was very pricey!!! |

First time I went to a derm I really thought it was going to solve all my problems - oily skin, blocked pores, redness etc etc.... I mean I was paying $180 and was on a 2 month waiting list.. so the guy had to be good right?
WELL some derms are really narrow minded.. all he had his eyes on was prescribing me for Roaccutane.. even when I raised concerns about what it might do for my redness.. and he was entirely not interested. So 5 minutes later and $180 out of my pocket, I was holding a thousand pamphlets about the dangers of Roaccutane.
The only good thing I got out of that experience was that he recommended I do a blood test and later I discovered that I had elevated testosterone levels - which was the main cause of my acne..
I have had far greater results with my own experimenting than trying to use those things that my GP or derm has prescribed.. |

Unfortunately I've never had much luck with facials. However, I HAVE had good luck with my dermatologist. It really vaires though--- I went to this one super expensive dermatologist, and she was no help for my acne at all. All she said to me was "Just put make up over it--- that's what I do." However, the dermatologist I've been seeing for the past few months has been great. She's very sympathetic, and she's really helped me get my acne under control. |

The last derm that I went to, wasn't all that great. The appointment cost me $25 up front(supposedly for services not covered under the provincial health plan). I later noticed a sign that $25 was for any injections for acne. I didn't get a single injection during that appointment. I shouldn't have been charged. The doctor took like 5 secs looking at my skin and recommended Accutane or Spironolactone. I went with Spironolactone for about a month and didn't go back afterwards to get a new prescription. It helped with my chin acne but I didn't want to keep taking it.
I'm currently seeing a Naturopathic Doctor, changed my eating habits, taking supplements and using more natural skin care. It was so simple and yet made a huge difference in my skin. |

I sometimes see a derm when I'm in Thailand just for minor stuff. Eg, lasering a skin tag off my body cost me less than US15, including consultation, (at one of the best private hospitals in BKK).
Sorry, that was cruel after hearing some of the other prices mentioned here |

I got facials every few months when I lived up in Canada. Since then it's only been as a special treat because I don't think I get any major results from them but it's so nice to go the spa and be pampered. We have the most beautiful spa right in the marina here.
I will probably start going to a dermatologist over on the mainland soon. It is really cheap and I'd like to be carefully screened for skin cancer. DH is going too, he just doesn't know it yet!
A friend of mine was just in Panama and had a laser peel and botox for about $200 !! |

I used to go in for facials a few years ago mainly to keep my pores tight. However, I haven't had a facial in 3 years and my skin has never looked better.
I see my dermatologist once every 6 mos. or so.
And, when I'm in the mood to really splurge, I do visit a local day spa where they do this great full body exfoliation with coffee grinds and sea salt, and then a body wrap and massage. I usually do it every 2 or 3 months and it is an incredible luxury. Afterwards my skin is sleeeeeeeeeeek and stays that way for about 10 days.... |

I see my Derm. on regular basis. He wanted to put me on accutane and I said "NO". There is no way I want to take the chance that I may become mentally ill and not be able to recognize it. I told him with technology today, there has to be something better.
That is when he prescribed vit. A and I love it.
He is so sweet and he understands how acne does affect how I feel and how I look at myself. I really hated it when I had to apply foundation just to take out the garbage or something. Now, I barely wear foundation and I look and feel healthy. |
