Hello everyone! I need a fast reply!!! I have a facial scheduled for today in about three hours and I'm having second thoughts. I am 27 and never had one before. My skin has really imporved in the last 6 weeks since I've implemented the PTR line into my daily regimine. Because of the great progress of my skin, I don't want to do anything to mess it up. I've heard several horror stories about folks getting scars and burns from over zealous facials. My skin is sensitive and the esthetician uses dermalogica products. She gave me a sample of the daily microexfoliant and it burned my face and caused clogged pores. Please give your suggestions, warnings, reassurances. I just may cancel this appointment today. I cancelled a facial for the same reason a few months ago. This particular facial just seemed more frou frou and geared toward relaxation, using aromatherapy oils and such. I was afraid it would mess up my skin.

I don't think that means that all of that brand will do the same, but it's a possibility.

Aww Chellsta,

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I had a facial once when I was a teen and this crazy woman steamed my face like a lobster. Ever since that I was as scared of facialists as dentists and serial killers. BUT I have to tell you that spas and estheticians have moved on alot from this rep and they are sometimes more knowledgeable about skin than derms (other than medical skin conditions). I had my first facial since then with La Prairie Caviar and it was lovely. My skin needed a good exfol and it was relaxing. I have since then tried Bliss Spa for triple oxygen and Illuminat spa which does Decleor. I am trying to do one now every change of season.

I think you really need to go to the right place with trained professionals who uses products that work for your skin. Microfoliant is so gentle so if that burned you then I would say not to do Dermalogica! The facialist should talk to you first about treatments and ask you what you like/what does not work/reactions etc. There are also so many things you can do at home before you pay for a prof treatment. The advantage of a professional is the massage, drainage, other techniques that really relax you.

Good luck

Smile Hi Miss Chellsta,
facials are wonderful for your skin, but as with anything it depends upon the techniques, products and your facialist. One of my daughters has modeled for years in NYC; she is also about to graduate as a broadcast Meteorologist. When I need to find her a facilist - I interview them. She also brings her products in with her. We look for someone who does more of a European facial. The person need not be an esthetician. We look for someone who pre-steams the face, uses galvanic current, UV wand and facial massage.
It is true it will start to bring any junk that is stuck down in your pores out, but you really don't want it to stay there, do you? Price is never reflective. My favorite facialist is in Colorado Springs, CO. She is an older German gal named Susanne and is with a tanning salon called Sun Solutions. She is just a gem and only charges $40! German trained, I can't replicate her in Denver for under $125. So don't give up, just ask questions. All the best, Amy

I did mine 3 or 4 times in NYC, everything went well, but I do have friends that complained about being treated wrong like burnt eye brow waxing, etc. I guess you might need to find a good facial place... Go with friends...

Chellsta, how did it go? I really think I need extractions after I used something a few months ago that seriously clogged my pores (the new Mychelle sunscreen). But a lot of people tell me not to let anyone do that to my face.

BTW, I'm in Seattle, if anyone knows of someone good.

AmyNaturDerm, thank you for this advice!! Actually, I feel really good about it because everthing you advised was done by the esthetician. It was a European facial and I brought in all my products to her. She also used galvanic current, UV wand and I sort of thought it was a joke butnow hearning you recc it, I feel like it was a good procedure. It didn't feel like anything at all and just made a funny noise but she insured that it would kill bacteria and stop a break out dead in its track. She also did the pre-steam and nice relaxing massage. I was pleased overall and she only charged 60 bucks for the hour. I would go back with the change of season but am not comitted to monthly or six week treatments as I think that I can maintain my skin on my own really well. I was a little disappointed with the fact that she only did extractions on my nose and did not extract from the face. Well, I soprt of tried to make her extract a black head from my upper cheeck but she said the skin was too dry at the impaction site and decided to use the galvanic current wand instead. She also said that I can come in for the wand treatment if I ever feel like I'm gonna have a break out. I am glad I found out about that little wonder wand! Overall, I was pleased and appreciate your tips as now I know that things were done corrctly!!!!

Michelec,
Hey there!! It went well. I posted above on the specifics. Unfortunately, I'm in southern Cali so I can't reccomend a place to you but maybe someone else can??? I would recommend a facial just at the turn of the season. I think that the folks who post on EDS know just as mush (if not more) than these estiticiana.

Hey chellsta - hope it went well! Isn't there a place near you that does PTR facials? Can you not go there? It might be good as they could advise on your routine etc as your skin changes. I really like PTR facials as they decide which one to do on how your skin is that day - my facialist normally does a herbal enzyme peel or the oxygen facial but sometimes a 'power c' one in the winter. She also does good extractions which clear my skin out when it's congested, I could never do that myself.

Hi Daisy!
I wish I could find someone to do a PTR facial. No luck though Sad How do I find a PTR facial? I've called several places an they all use like Murad or dermalogica or MD formulations. I am in Souther California. . .Ontario to be exact but can not find a place. I want a PTR facial soooo badly. Hey Daisy . . .what do you think about the using the Dermalogica Daily Microexfoliant with the current regimine I have? I only use PTR buffing beads every other day but the dermalogica is supposed to be for every day. When I used it in a sample, I found that it was great with my claming p.m. regimine but irritating with my morning salicylic regimine. What do you think???? Have you ever used the dermalogica daily microexfoliant?

Oh ok. Sorry my mistake. I thought you had been somewhere where they advised you about PTR products and it was a facialist who had advised you. Hmmm...have you tried calling PTR to see if there is anywhere near you? I think I tried a sample of that Dermalogica product. If you like it, I don't see why not, but as usual try not to overdry your skin!
Doesn't Mabsy use it? I think she uses some PTR stuff too? If so, maybe she can help. If not, I'm talking rubbish Smile
