Has anyone had any experience with the Aphogee hair repair treatments? |

It's been awhile but I did use the Aphogee pack a long time ago. I need to get more but it's a pain because Sally's isn't convenient.
It still gets raves as the best protein treatment. |

I tried it several months ago. It totally didn't work for me and it took me awhile to figure out why. My hair responds poorly to protein in hair products. All this time, I was trying to use all these protein products on my hair and it just seemed to get dryer and dryer. Finally, a few weeks ago, I realized that my hair DOESN'T LIKE PROTEIN! I've stopped products with it and since then, my hair is improving. Oh well...
I think it's a great product (gets lots of good reviews). It's just my hair that didn't like it. |

ellyp - are you sure your hair needs protein? If your hair is craving moisture - a protein treatment will dry it out.
I have Asian hair and my stylist says that I have a lot of protein - but I also get a yearly body perm and I highlight every 6 weeks. |

That's exactly what happened -- my hair kept getting more dry and brittle and I couldn't figure out why! I only cut and process my hair every 6 months. I don't even use a hairdryer or curling iron so I couldn't figure out why it kept getting dryer.
I had gotten some advice on the longhair forum that your hair needs to have a balance of protein and moisture so I bought the Aphogee conditioner and I was alternating it with moisturizing oils. My hair did not like it at all but it took the advice of carekate and others to help me figure it out. It's now starting to do a lot better since I've eliminated all protein conditioners or protein in my shampoos. Geez!
If your hair needs protein, this is a great conditioner though. Cheap too! |

My hair has been snapping close to the roots when I put my hand through it so I decided to go ahead and try it. The directions said to put a moisturizing treatment on after you had rinsed it out. I globbed on a good hair moisturizer and left it there for a few hours. My hair seems stronger. That stuff smells awful. |

Now THAT is a lot harder than it sounds! Who knew that practically every product out there contained at least one form of protein?!
If you don't mind sharing, what protein-free conditioner are you using now? I'm always on the lookout for a new one to add to my stable...ehr, I mean, shower...as evidenced by my wandering up and down the haircare aisle at Sephora the other day, reading labels while being stalked by four different sales assistants who wanted to recommend something to me, and I'm like "Go away, I know what I'm doing!" |

This conditoner is talked about often on MUA hair care board. Good reviews except complaints about the smell. I have read it smells as bad as cat pee.
Any time you use a protein conditoner it must be followed by a moisturizing conditioning treatment (Nuetrogena Triple Moisture mask, etc.) Also to used sparely - suggested use is once every 6 weeks. |

omg! that last part was hillarious. Sephora employees do not know what they are doing when they stalk the informed members of eds |

I'm extremely good at hitting various stores and playing the "help me!" act so that I can get a stash of samples (all it takes is the time to talk to them). I am SO amazed at how many conflicting advice I get from various people at Sephora! It's amazing. I have run in to some seriously helpful ones but, overall, they really don't know that much. I don't blame them (there are soooo many brands there!) but I think we should all be aware of that when asking for advice. |

My hair is relaxed, and I really need a touch up soon. I also just applied Bigen and a little bleach for 3 highlights (in small areas so if they fall off, no big deal!).
I noticed that my hair, which has been breaking and getting really dry, now needed immediate treatment.
I performed the following amazing treatment using the Apoghee reconstructive treatment.
1. Shampooed with Aubrey's GPB shampoo
2. Shampooed with Textured Tresses Shea Butter Shampoo
3. Blotted hair
4. Applied Aphogee treatment to entire head. Combed through and sat under dryer for about 35 minutes, until I was sure the product had thoroughly dried on my hair.
5. Next used warmish hot water to carefully dissolve product from hair.
6. Applied UBH deep conditioner. Put plastic cap on, and sat under hard bonnet dryer for 20 minutes. Rinsed out well. (as peppermint oil was in there - had to watch out for stinging eyes).
7. Applied Redken Smooth Down Butter Treat
, and L'oreal Nature's Therapy Mega Moisture Creme- put plastic cap and sat under dryer for 5 minutes.
8. Rinsed all out, and applied Paul Mitchell Detangler to lower ph.
9. Applied Revelon Texture line serum, Dew (UBH), and a setting lotion (Silk from Elasta QP).
10. Wet set hair without combing, and sat under dryer for 1 hour+15 minutes.
The result is much stronger hair that is super shiny and conditioned. The extra conditioning is really important whenever using a hard core protein product as its designed to harden your hair. Some people even recommend a hot oil treatment after the protein treatment.
I'll try doing these treatments weekly, or everytime I wash, until my hair is totally recovered. |

FYI - an hot oil treatment *is* a protein treatment. It nourishes your hair, but it doesn't hydrate it. |

I didn't know that! Thanks I don't know too much about hair care products. My hair is always dry but I think overall, Phyto and Rene Furterer have nice conditioners. And Karestase but difficult to find this line close to where I live. |
