Best of luck Salster! Hope you will hear back from the doctor soon.
Not sure if this is appropriate but...one of my eyes are monolid and the other is double lid. I always have lopsided eyes. . My way of hiding it, put on some glasses . |

ive just been searching the internet yet again. Im sure i cause myself more worry by looking at all these things ie menopause, bells palsey etc. but then I came back on here and have just been reading up on facial exercises. Does anyone think that maybe I could benefit from this. I have an awful feeeling I am going through the early menopause like my mum did and maybe that is what is happening to my eye - maybe my skin is losing elasticity all that more quicker. Just thought maybe if I start with facial exercies this could help |

I can't help on facial exercises-I believe Winnie can help. I just want to say that menopause (early or otherwise) dosen't wreck your face-and the changes that do happen aren't THAT fast. It's more like increased dryness, fragility, loss of firmness (not that it sags to the floor).Small changes you notice over time. |

Please do not worry about menopause my dear. I feel great (and think I look great) for 60. Menopause is not going to make you age overnight. The most important thing you can do for you is: eat well, laugh much and try not to worry so much. Most of the things we worry about never happen. I worried a lot more when I was younger. It is not worth the energy.
As far as facial exercise I do believe in it. I have used the Facial Flex fairly religiously for 2 years. It is helping my face stay firmer then average for my age. The Facial Flex does not work the eye area. Carol Maggio has a good book with fairly easy eye exercises. I can't tell you how much good they do as I have never stuck with the program.
Again, you are lovely. Try to look at all your good features instead of focusing on the negative. For instance: I have always had bags under my eyes. I hate them!!! If I focused on them I would never be satisfied. I found that I look better with glasses. My skin (condition) and smile are my best features (so I have been told). I line those lips and draw attention away from those bags. No one is perfect. Lets face it....all members of EDS are spending time here to try to work on something.

I agree with marina 100%. It happens to all of us. From what I understand these hormonal changes start around 35. |

Thanks Marina and Winne. Ive probably made myself feel worse because ive been reading lots about it onthe internet and most sites say it can age you quicker. I guess with all ive been through and most of it my own fault (my eating disorder and staying with someone for all those years when I should of upped and left along long time ago) I have not done myself alot of favours in aging gracefully. I think now that I realise I have wasted years I guess I wanted a bit of youth back to start over. Sounds silly i know but I cant really put it into words really. It just seems to go through this at 38 when they say the average age is 51 it feels im getting older all the more quicker. I was so distraught after the dr said this could be happening and did nothing but cry for a good few days. Im sure people at work thought i had gone a bit potty
I have had a look at the facial exercises Winnie. Ive just found the Carol Maggio book have ordered it. Winnie I chose this one first as it does the eye area. Do you think I should also buy the facial flex
By the way Winnie (sorry I wasnt being ignorant and forgetting) how are you feeling? Is everything going well?

Hi Winnie
I have just seen the facial flex on ebay. Is this the right one where you place it in your mouth. It is being sold on there for $39.35 |

Sally,
I am going to answer this for Winnie (sorry Winnie) and say yes the facial flex is the one you put in your mouth. Winnie persuaded me to buy one yonks ago.
I also saw your picture & I was surprised at how beautiful you are. I realise we are all our own worst critics but I wish I looked half as good as you.
It sounds like you saw a good caring doctor and hopefully they will find a very minor easily curable reason why your eye has drooped. I hope it's not the menopause because at 44 I think I have started mine & I certainly don't want any more of my body parts drooping. |

thank you loopylori for the lovely compliment. I know (and my friends always say I am too hard on myself) but I never see myself like that. I used to be a lot worse and when Id walk down the street or people talked to me I was always thinking they were thinking poor little ugly thing. Since beating anorexia I have been trying so hard to come to terms with how I look and to at least be happy with me. Its a hard thing to do when you have no confidence. and then you sit back and think about all the other people who are so much more worse off than you. Its a terrible selfish thing this beauty lark but saying that if i could just be happy with me I think life in general would take on a far brighter look and I probably wouldnt worry so much.
I think I might just purchase one of these facial flexes. Ive just been reading a few sites and they say it just takes a couple of minutes a day both am and pm. Surely it cant do anything bad to me

and my thoughts and prayers to you to Winnie
You know, just coming here on EDS and talking with all the ladies here makes such a difference in itself. If you could see me when I get a response - you wouldnt believe the big smile that comes on my face.
I know I have never had much to advise people on (one im pretty clueless on skincare - hence one of the reasons im probably in a mess) but I really truely appreciate all the help ive gotten from everyone and all the compliments, they have helped me so much in themselves. Hopefully, one day I can offer some advice to others (but that maybe a little time away as I am still learning every time I come on here
Love to all you lovely ladies |

I will do Marina.
Ive actually felt alot better in myself today. Maybe just seeing the dr and knowing he hasnt just dismissed me and is in fact sending me for a blood test to see if anything strange is happening has made me feel not so silly.
I will let you know how i get on. I think i have to wait 2 weeks for the results. But in the mean time I awill be good and not use my Baby Q until I get my results. I have just done a couple of facial exercises from the internet and have ordered the Carol Maggio facial exercise book tonight. That should keep my mind off things by doing those and ive also looked at the facial flex which Winnie mentioned. I should be ok doing these for now shouldnt I ? |

Hi Sally - I'm so glad to read that you've seen a doctor and your spirits are starting to rise. This is progress! The fact that you're overcoming anorexia shows that you have strength within, so I'm optimistic you can get through this troubling period of your life.
Your blood work will reveal to the doctor what your hormone levels are, and even if you're perimenopausal, it's certainly not the end of the world. I dreaded menopause but I have to say it hasn't been so bad afterall. And give me a break -- I wish I were 38 again. I even wish I were 48 again! loopylori is so right -- we're our own worst critics. If any of us truly felt we looked our best, we wouldn't be members of this forum!
I may be wrong but I don't think it would be harmful to try some facial exercises, even if it turns out you have some physical malady. I've used a DermalTone device from time to time and it helps.
Good luck! |

Sally,
You sound much better today I am glad to hear it. I don't think a bit of facial excercise will be harmful. I must get out my video & do some. I go through stages where I religiously do them for a couple of weeks & then give up for ages.
I'm sending hugs to you and Winnie hoping you both feel great soon.

Thanks Lori
I do feel brighter today. Ive had last week off work because i felt completely drained by everything. I think it has done me the world of good. Ive only taken odd days here and there off work and have not been on holiday for some years. Just been to my mums and step dads (they just got married this august) for sunday lunch. They feed me so much - im sure they are fattening me up for christmas They are going to Cyprus in June next year for Johns grandaughters wedding and they have just told me they have booked for me to go with them. Ive got such a caring and wonderful family. My mums been through some very bad relationships (an alcoholic who beat her terribly) and yet she is such a star. SHes now met the nicest man she could ever of wished to meet. They both have seen me through my split with my ex partner and have been there for whenever I need. They do get a bit angry with me because I tend not to put on them (or anyone for that matter) and they have to prise problems out of me. Im so so very lucky for the family i have and for all the new friends ive made on here.
Today does feel better. Im going to try not to worry too much until i get the results from both blood tests and try better to be more positive. i do get days like this and can easily slip back into being a complete worrier.
I did some facial exercises this morning and as strange as it might sound, i think that made me feel a bit more positive by doing them. Tonight I shall do some more.
hope everyone has a wonderful day and thank you all again

Hi Sally!
I'm glad you're doing better and trying to not worry/think about everything too much; it just creates unnecessary stress. It's great that the facial exercises are helping to keep your spirits up; I think what goes on in our heads has a great effect on our bodies.
Take care. |

Sally, I'm so glad you're feeling better. Sometimes you just need to get away from it all and spend time with the people you love. I think it's great you're doing the facial exercises. I can't imagine that they could possibly do any damage, regardless of what the problem turns out to be. |

Well I just thought id pop these two pics up. (sorry but they are quite horrid) I took them this morning. My left eye is looking better today. It is not drooping half as much as it was. I dont know if the facial exercises have done this. Its great news if they have. I have done them morning and night so far. These pictures were taken after I had done them this morning
I had my first blood test this morning and should get the results in about 10 days. I then have to have another one on 7th December. |

It kind of looks like fluid retention to me. It is quite common for my eyes to get that way. Could that be the case with you? If so lower your salt intake and drink your water. |

Hey Sally - Winnie makes a great point. I didn't think to mention that my eyes can look puffy if I've eaten too much salty food. They also got puffy when I tried taking oral HA tablets, as recommended in the thread about lip plumping. Sleeping with the head more inclined can help with puffy lids.
And you don't look to me like you have Bell's Palsy either! Many people have asymmetrical lids, especially as we age. Yours don't look bad! BTW, I always wished I had big blue eyes.
One thing about facial exercises is that the muscles are much shorter than, for instance, thigh muscles. So improvement will show up faster. But sometimes initial changes can be attributed to swelling, especially when an aggressive program is begun. |

Im terrible at drinking water but last week I have been making myself drink it. In fact ive actually hadhot water as soon as i get up in the morning and have drank that throughout the day. Ive probably had only 1 or 2 cups of coffee per day over the last week. My eye certainly looks better than what it did. Its probably more what I see too. The second picture I can still see that the eyebrow is alot lower than the other. before it was even more noticeable and the skin above the lid pushed down on my eye making it look so smaller than the other. I dont add salt to my food when either cooking or eating.(well, only when I have chips ) but maybe im getting too much from foods i buy. I should look for salt or not salted products.
Im so releived it could be this. I think I thought it couldnt be fluid retention because it was only happening to one eye and not the other.
Well im just off to get another glass of water as i work and i will be doing more facial exercies this evening. Another thing, the bags under my eyes had been more prominent the past couple of months. (ok ive not slept well because of hot flushes at night) but i can see too that they dont seem half as bad today than what they were.
Im a proper whalley arnt I? feel right daft now and all you ladies have been sending me all your caring words. So sorry to mess you all around

My eyes were a lot like yours; I had an U/L Bleph at 44, mine were due to, I believe being hypothyroid for years. Mine were worse when I was tired, didn't sleep enough, ate too much salt, etc. I also went through meno early due to hyst. and was on HRT. Maybe it was all these things combined for me.
Your eyes do not look like Bell's Palsy or anything for sure! My Mom had it; trust me, I know it when I see it! A stroke, no way. |

They look okay now to me, Sally. We're all a little asymmetrical. I noticed last night that the septum of my nose comes down farther on one side.
I think it must be something to do with your routine or your diet or sleep. Here's another thought: Do you think it's possible that you were seeing some improvement in the right side(maybe from the baby Q), and it made the left side look really bad to you? My left side always looks worse than my right.
IMHO, I think it'd be okay to start back with the baby Q. If that and the facial exercises don't do the trick for you, maybe you should treat yourself to the eye job. I'm really considering Resty in my N/L lines, and I'm only 34.
I'm not saying I think that we should all run off to the plastic surgeon the second we see a sign of aging, but I think with all you've been through, you owe it to yourself if you decide that's what you need!
That said, I think you look great! I don't see any other lines on your face anywhere! |

Sally,
They do look okay to me as well. I don't see any excessive drooping. What I do see is beautiful big blue/grey eyes, nice peach-colored skin with good tone and texture to it. Considering your recent troubles, it's no wonder that you might have a bit of puffiness around your eyes. A nice gel pack that can be refrigerated and then used each AM and PM will help, too. Or even chamomile tea. You can drink it to keep you calm and then place the bags on your eyes to reduce puffiness, too.
It sounds like you're having a good day. I'm really glad for you! Getting in control of your health, your lifestyle, all that - whenever I feel like I am the one who controls my life that when I feel best. And feel the worst when I think I am not able to control what happens to me.
So, it looks like things are looking up for you and you have turned the corner. That's great!
Take care.... |
