Hello:

I am using Olive oil on hair and lips, also on skin if the heating makes my face too dry. But I am always confused about the quality of Olive oil. I heard some people said the darker, the cleaner, the better. Also, some other people said only the first cold pressed oil is the best and the color of this is almost clear, not dark at all.

I bought DHC Olive oil before, which is said the first cold pressed oil, and its color is almost clear with very high price compared to supermaket brands. I read paula's book, and she said DHC Olive oil is over priced, and she can buy in the supermaket with much lower price and the same quality. I searched many supermarket, and found for all cold pressed there, the color is very dark. But the price is really low.

Please, who knows which one is the right kind I should choose, dark one or clear one?

Hi rayna,

Extra Virgin is always best because it comes from the first pressing of the olives. Cold-pressed means that the oil was extracted without heat or solvants and is even better. So... cold pressed extra virgin is the least acidic and would be subject to much less oxidation. Good quality olive oil really is reflected in the price. This is one instance where "better" is more expensive and you get what you pay for.
Color depends on region, type of olives used and the time of year they were picked. For example, green olives are a younger and earlier crop than say brown or black olives, so color is not indicative of quality! HTH's Very Happy

Your welcome! And I should add, that olive oil goes rancid fairly quickly, so try to buy it in the darkest bottles you can find, and store it in a cool dark place.
There's a TON of info. about olive oil on the net if you want to look further into the different olives, flavors, regions etc. Lots of good sites! Very Happy
