Is vegetable glycerin the same as the glycerin in the first aid aisle? I need it for some recipes.

My DIY book says i can use corn syrup, anyone have any experience with this?

Hi Angyl,

Vegetable glycerin is the same as the glycerin in the first aid aisle ... except that vegetable glycerin is from a completely vegetable source.

As for corn syrup ... I suppose that is an option if you have it around the house ... it too is a vegetable source ... [obviously Laughing ]

Personally, and with absolutely no scientific backup, I find vegetable glycerin to be less dense than the one I get in the drug store. To me it feels more like "glycerin light" Laughing

Now, both glycerin [regardless of source] and corn syrup are sweet ... and as such are considered "humectants" ... or moisturizers. They are supposed to attract moisture to the skin when used in skin care products. Honey too is a good substitute.

Hope this helps.

Mary
