I wash my face with slightly warm water (NEVER hot or cold). Extreme temperature changes to the skin is not beneficial (for me for sure). The biggest reason I do not use hot or cold on my face is that it can cause broken capillaries.

i have heard that washing with cold water can cause broken capillaries too. it makes sense that really hot or cold water could have that effect, shocks the skin.

I once used both warm and cold water to wash my face. I purposely boiled water every night just to complete my facial wash. I used warm water to clean off my face and splash cold water for the last step.

Initially, I thought it is good for my skin. But, after a few weeks of such routine, I noticed my face was a little bit harsh, I spent some time only to find out that warm water is the culprit. Because at that time, I didnt change any of my facial daily regimen except this. I immediately stopped having warm water on my face and my skin recovered to its initial smooth condition gradually.

Just to share out my experience here. Hope that helps.

You were using boiled water? To me that seems a lot more than "warm". Either of the extremes is not good for the skin. I use warm water (not hot) to wash and then cold-cool water (not icy) afterwards. Using either hot or cold will very likely cause problems in many people.

You are all going to gasp at this, but a family friend, at 80+yrs, with a very young spirit, rinses his face with the coldest tap water (Toronto climate) he can get from city water and his skin is amazing.

He swears by this method. You would never believe he was over 80. Mind you male skin is frequently thicker but all the same, it's something to consider & maybe experiment with.

I also recall one of my secretaries started looking bright & tight, & she claimed it was because she started rinsing with very cold water (Ottawa winter climate... now that's cold).

In fact, had forgotten all about this method & am going to try it myself.
Will advise.

Cheers Smile

I use luke warm water. Too hot will dry up your skin and rob it of natural oils.

I heard that oily skin people should wash the face with cold water in the morning to control the oil during the day.
So i usually use cool water in the morning and warm water at night to wash out the impurities.

I use cold water simply because I have no patience to wait for the water to warm up. Plus, since I live in a desert with water shortage issues, I feel guilty wasting water.

I've also heard the same thing that cold water minimizes pores. However, I use cleansing oil to clean my face so I emulsify and rinse it with warm water, then splash my face with very cold water. I don't think it makes any difference for me, but I just like the refreshing feeling on my face.
