I have been reading alot of information about skincare. The trend is definitely to use aha's, retinoids and other acids.
I've used these not very much seeing how they haven't really done much for my skin but now that I'm using TNS Recovery Complex & copper peptide products, I find that the use of these speed up the renewal process.
There is a small faction (doctors, esthetician & consumers) that feel that use of the acids might be in the long term damaging to skin.
There are lines that Dr Hauska & Jurlique that don't seem to incorporate acids. I will continue to use acids during this stage of my product use but I thought it would be an interesting topic for discussion. Any thoughts from anyone would be appreciated. |

Queen,
I can not use retinoid acids. I used it when I was in my early 30's and developed terrible reaction to it. Years later, I have horrible dark pigmentation on the small area where I applied the Retin-A. I also found that AHA's worked for me for the first few weeks after I started the regime. After that, I developed dark and rough skin tone, so I decided to stay away from AHA acides too. As you said, some doctors are eerie about AHA acides too.
I am using TNS Recovery Complex now and I can see gradual improvement on my skin renewal process. I have been using it for 6 weeks. The improvement process is not as fast as I like, but it does not give me side effects as Retinoid acids or AHA acids did, so I amd going to stick with it for a while and see what happens.
I am continuing to find something that will work for me as you do. Please tell me more about the copper peptide product. I would like to try it too. Where did you get the copper peptide from? What brand? Are there known studies about copper peptide. Will it cause any side effects?
Thank you,
Rose |

Rose,
I use Skin Biology copper peptides. I am very pleased with them. They are suppose to remodel the skin and many people have had amazing results.
I have been using them for about 6 months. I have seen some improvement in skin tone, firmness and fine lines. But I have had truly spectacular results very quickly on neck & chest. For me, this confirms that the product works. I probably just have more damage on my face and it's taking some time.
There is alot of information (too much, it can be overwhelming) at skinbiology.com There is alot of technical information too.
The key is to with these product to start slowly and build up. People get irritations which is a signal to back off a little from the product. I personally approached things slowly & had no reaction. I gave my skin time to adjust.
Copper peptides are catching on a bit and Neostrata & Deming have copper peptide products. I prefer the Skin Bilology because it is sold by Dr Pickart who has done so much research with copper peptides. There is a variety of strengths too. I don't buy from the Skinbiology site but from a woman in FL (funny because skinbiology is 1 town over form me) but I hear they have excellent customer service & will answer questions you may have. I buy from diannayvonne.com She's wonderful too. Maybe EDS will start carrying these products soon.hth |

Hello,
Here's my two cents worth on this topic.
I'm another one that can't use retinols, AHA's, Vitamin C serums etc. because of very sensitive skin. Because of this I've turned to essential oils and organic botanicals because they just do wonderful things for my skin and are very compatible without any irritation or sensitivities. However, this does not mean I'm being shortchanged on these newly used topical skin care products like the retinols and Vitamin C because essential oils contain and do the exact same thing as retinols etc. without the irritation. For example, Rosehip Oil contains naturally occurring Retinol, Vitamin C and lot of other good vitamins and minerals. There is another oil that contains copper and another one that gently exfoliates the skin.
I guess what I'm also saying is that there are alternate ways of improving the skin. I also have read that in the long run AHA's, retinols, Vitamin C can be dangerous to the skin because it thins it and a thinner skin wrinkles faster and becomes more damaged by thesun. I don't know if this is true, it's just what I've read.
Anyways, to all those with skin like mine, don't despair because there are other skin care regimes that will be perfect for you. Like with anything else there is just never one way of doing something. |
