I was reading the FAQ regarding this method and I had a few questions for those of you who use this method.
Do you do this am and pm? I read in the post EVOO and CO were recommended but I've seen others mention Jojoba oil. Which seems to work best for dryer skin?
TIA

I do OCM at night only. It is the best option for me to get off all of my makeup and sunscreen. I am not a DIY person, so I buy La Vitton (now Laventine) cleansing oil and it's worked great for me. |

I also do OCM at night, in the morning I use water or some gentle cleanser (eg. Dr. H cleansing milk). I'm no DIY so I use Babor's 2-step cleansing oil. My HG cleanser¨, even if it's expencive I buy it again and again ... and again |

I use OCM at night as well since the whole thing takes me about a minute.
The oils you use depend on your skin type. I am sure Carekate had a list of the different types of oils that you can use.
Generally the mix is castor oil (which is cleansing but a lil bit drying) + a moisturising oil. That is why you often see people use jojoba oil or extra virgin olive oil.
That said I am using Sweet almond oil (2/3) and castor oil (1/3) since I react to jojoba oil and I hear that people with combination skin don't always take well to EVO. Got my friend trying out a mix of castor oil, macadamia oil and sweet almond oil as she has oily-blemish skin.
Love my OCM. |

I use OCM both morning and night ... although I confess to doing more steaming at night than in the AM.
I mix my own oils because ... well ... it's so easy ... and you don't end up with all the other things in it ...
However, recently when I was travelling, I didn't want to take quite so liquid a prep ... and I purchased Burt's Bees Orange Essence Cleanser ... which was/is very very nice. It was also pretty inexpensive.
My girlfriend, who also mixes her own OCM, took a small bottle of hers on a trip ... and despite the top being on securely, it leaked ... The Burt's Bees was a good substitute ... although I prefer my own mix better.

Ok. I'm ready to panic here. I'm on my third night of using oils and noticed little bumps on my right cheek that were not there before I started oils. Any suggestions?

Hi Kimberly,
A couple of things. The bumps you are noticing might have been forming long before you began OCM ... or they could be the first signs of purging.
Purging will happen with OCM as with anything else.
I would ask you to ensure that you're getting all of the oil mixture off of your face. It sommetimes takes two or three passes, [ensuring that you rinse the washcloth out again between "passes".]
Despite using OCM for well over a year now, I did find that I, personally, didn't like the olive oil in the mix and changed it to grapeseed oil, which has worked well for me.
Also ... make sure that you're not using too much of the oil mixture. That's a real possibility in the early days of doing OCM.
I keep my mixed oil in a ceramic "soap dispenser" on my vanity. I use a maximum of two presses to clean my face. I press once putting a small mount of the oil mixture in my hand and then smooth that over my dry face ... and if it's not enough, I do another one. That's more than enough to do the job.
I'd keep doing OCM for a couple of weeks and see what you think.
Massage the oil well before wiping off!
HTH

Thanks Mary. I think I was using entirely too much based on your post. I'll keep trying as I did enjoy the feel. I tried Jojoba oil last night.

I second what Mary wrote here about making sure you get ALL of the oil off. I started using a microfiber cloth instead of a normal washcloth because it makes it easier to get all of the oil off. Also, I made the mistake of using too much oil when I first started OCM. Cutting back and using the microfiber cloth improved my results with OCM.

I've been careful *I thought* to remove all the oil but both of your comments have me convinced now that I was using WAY TOO much oil. I've not mixed any in a bottle yet as I was trying to decide which oils would work best so I'm guessing that the ratio I was using was off too.
You all have been so helpful. Thanks so much.
