I am new to this forum, and desperately searching for information on why at age 54, I have red blotchy zits (acne?) all over my face. I've evaluated it being my skin lotions, cleansers, sunscreen, vitamins, detergents, foods I eat, etc...but none of them have changed for a long time, and I didn't have zits in the past. The only thing that I have done differently, is I switched from my bare essential Mineral Makeup to PUR MINERALS. I like PUR more than BE because of the coverage but could it be causing my breakouts??? HAS ANYONE GOTTEN ZITS FROM PUR MINERALS or any mineral makeup? Everything I read says how mineral makeup is great for people with acne. HEEEEELLLLPP! I don't want to leave the house! |

Have you tried comparing the ingredient in BE to PUR? I know that some people are sensitive to bismuth (and I'm not sure if either product has that ingredient), but it it's bismuth or another ingredient that your skin doesn't like, it might be reacting by showing the red bumps on your skin. |

Hi. I got spots just recently when I tried Alima, after using PureLuxe with no problems.
I guess I need to look at the ingredient list of the two mu's and see what it was that caused the irritation. |

I broke out something fierce from BE, but i have not tried any other MMU besides that and Everyday Minerals. I now wear EM. |

Welcome, Mountain Girl! I have used Pür Minerals for a few years and haven't had the reaction you've described although on the few occasions that I have worn it overnight , I have broken out into a terrible scaly rash (which I suppose serves me right considering.... ). It does contain Bismuth as suggested by marci65. I am also wondering if it could be the Mica? which some forum members have found they are sensitive to.
The ingredients in Pür are: Mica, Bismuth Oxychloride, Caprylic/Capic Triglyceride, Boron Nitride, Zinc Stearate, Magnesium Silicate, Magnesium Carbonate, Silica, Tocopheryl Acetate, Shea Butter (Butyrospermumparkii), Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Titanium Dixoide, Iron Oxides.
I just started trying Alima and found that it is purer, more affordable and comes in a greater range of colours that you can purchase as samples off their website. In case you are interested, here is one of the threads on the forum comparing some of the MMUs.....

Oh boy...I am sitting here with at least 20 zits on my face from my makeup ordeal...at least now I know its from my makeup. That was the last thing I suspected! I realize the Bare Essentual's has been a contributing factor to my breakouts, but only mildly. Then switching to the PURMinerals (which I loved,) just make my face go bonkers breaking out. Thanks for such great information about the titanium dioxide, mica and bismuth! I feel so much better informed about all this. Thanks for the help! Now, any suggestions on how to dry up these zits fast?? Should I just Retin A them to death? |

Mountaingirl,
I know exactly how you feel right now!! I broke out badly after one week of using Alima. I absoultely love how it looks on my skin but the darn ingredients in it made my skin so red and irritated, and it blocked every single one of my pore. It was just horrible. I have only just recovered from the disaster fully. I dont recommend using any harsh ingredients on your face for now. I used only cetaphil wash and lotion, and sigmacort on really congested and irritated areas. You have to be careful with sigamcort though, make sure you dont sleep with it on. It will block your pores further if you put too much. But it will help calm the top layer of the skin and it will heal itself, and in turn the clogged pore/pimple will rise to the surface. Then use gentle scrubs like Avene scrub to exfoliate twice a week.
I have just ordered MMU from Cory's minerals. http://www.corycosmetics.com/
It does not contain bismuth nor mica. So its worth a try. I will post a review once i got it. |

cc428...please do post about your experience with Cory's Minerals. I was just about to try Alima, until I read your post. I am so confused about which to try. Is it possible that part of the problem is that I wasn't cleaning my skin well after using MM's? I use mild cleansers since my skin is dry. I just wondered about that. |

hi! Do you have any idea what part of the Alima it was that caused you to break out?
I havent taken the time to isolate it yet, and I guess it would be helpful to know, so that whatever it is can be avoided in the future.
I'm trying everyday minerals at the moment, just received samples today. So far it looks great, but who knows what will happen over the next few days.. |

that's definitely a very strong possibility. try a balm cleanser or the like with a gentle cloth.
then again, i'm one of those that was so traumatised by an outbreak caused by BE that i still haven't had the guts to try another brand -- i'm a chicken. but everyone is different and many have found their holy grail MMUs by trial and error. ordering samples seem to be the key. |
