Since it's first time better to be on the safe side so I would do 2 or 3 minutes. That's how I got started. |

I agree with starting at 2 or 3 minutes if that's what your product instructions say. Better to test the waters instead of getting too much irritation. I have used the 30% glycolic on my forearms and hands and they tolerated more time right from the start, however I have, on occasion, accidentally left it on for up to 15 min and afterward my arms itch. You really do need to increase the timing in stages so you can see how your skin takes it. And make sure you neutralize ALL of it and get it ALL washed off. |

Jax, I am very interested in using a product on my forearms and hands - I got a sunburn last summer when I was wearing a t-shirt and now I have blotchiness on my lower arms (farmer tan - so uncouth!). Why did you choose a glycolic for your forearms/hands over another type of acid? What were your results using the glycolic? How many treatments have you done? Where do you get your products? Sorry for all the questions, but please elaborate! TIA! |

I tried Cellex C 30%, I had very poor results with it. My skin reacted and got darker. Make sure you try it on a small area first. |

I think even with first time 2-3 min seems long. I can't remember what my instructions said but they started me out at like 30 sec or a min for the first time. I did that but my skins tough. I'd definitely do a spot test first before going 2-3 min for your first try. I'd rather undo it than overdo it especially when it comes to chemical peels. Good luck! |

Well radical, my opinion is to never use anything over 10%. I think you'll risk irritation to your skin. 30% is too high. Let us know how you do with that though. |

From what company did you purchase the 30% glycolic peel? I'd be so nervous I'd probably do the sensitivity test on the callouses on my feet!!! Let us know how you do!!!

radicalgreenfrogs -
do you know the ph of the product?
I'm not well versed in stronger acids, but
I have to second ariesxtreme's suggestion of only doing this for 30 sec - literally put on face, and rinse off your first time.
I think no matter what you've tried before, you should always do a patch test with any new product. if that works out ok, then start w/ 30 sec only.
better safe. |

Mermaid - Whenever I do a glycolic peel on my face, I also do my arms and hands because it smoothes out my dry skin. I should do this at least once a week, but I forget and get busy with other things. It doesn't do anything startlingly dramatic and I've been considering kicking up to a 40% or getting one of those lite over-the-counter TCA peels when I run out of my current product. I bought my 30% from 30glycolicdotcom but makeup artists choice also sells all manner of peels and they are super at counseling new users.
When I started doing these peels a couple of years ago I chose glycolic because at the time I felt this type of acid had had the most consumer usage. I'd already had a couple of 50% peels at a derm's office on my face and so I knew the drill. I figured I could safely do my own with a lower strength at home and I was right. Strangely enough, I had more of a problem with an enzyme peel I got from a spa which turned out to be much stronger than the 30% glycolic. I underestimated it and got a teensy burn on one cheek where I didn't rinse enough. It healed quickly but taught me a lesson about following directions precisely the first time or two you use something new.
I don't know if a glycolic peel will help with your blotchiness because I don't know what your blotchiness looks like. I can tell you that, in my case, the 30% does improve flakiness and crepey skin but it hasn't done anything for pigmentation spots that I have from the sun - the main reason I started using peels. I'm still looking for a miracle product for these spots and just 2 weeks ago started using an arbutin serum. But maybe your blotches are some other color than brown? HTH... |

Hi Girls
I used my 30% peel last Friday eveing. I was really nervous but left it on 3 min. The instructions said to leave it on for 2 to 6 min. The ph of mine is 2.3 I purchased it from
House of Deming and my results were fine. No
stinging redness or anything. The instructions
said to wait a week b4 doing it again. Next week I think I'll increase the time to 4 min.
By the way the price for 1/4 ounce was $10.75
and I only used a small amount. I also am using
some of their other products and like them. They are full of all kinds of good things for
your skin and are quite reasonable. |

You'll be much more confident next week and you'll be more aware of how your skin is feeling while the glycolic is working instead of just watching the clock! Your face will be exfoliating over the coming week, so don't get discouraged if you see some flakes - that's what is supposed to happen. Hope you start seeing some of the results you're looking for within the next few applications. |
