I'm a newbie and have been reading postings on this site for a few weeks now. I must say, I'm addicted as well as humbled by the knowledge some of you display regarding products! As outlined above, I have very, very thin skin. It's also oily around the T zone, so I've had many problems with enlarged pores and blackheads (Decleor's ylang ylang oil has helped!). Also, I have reactions to many heavily fragranced products. I'm thirty six, but by staying out of sun, wearing sun screen, using quality products, etc., I've managed thus far to avoid heavy wrinkling. A facialist that I saw once told me I need to avoid acid based anti-aging products as my skin is too thin. She said I need to "plump" my skin up rather than "burn" it down. She recommended elastin/collagen products and put me onto a line called Clayton Shagal, which has an excellent an collagen and elastin gel line that has made a big difference for me. I see now, though, that there are many new products on the market. I'm wondering if anyone has any comments on caring for the type of skin I have and/or suggestions for quality anti-aging products to help protect thin, sensitive skin over the years. My skin is so thin you can see the capillaries underneath, even if they are not "broken".
Also, I see that spas are now offering "special treatments" but don't know if there is any kind of treatment that could help me. I'm rather intimidated because I worry that if I went for some form of microdermabrasion, my face may fall off!
Thanks in advance! |

My skin sounds very similar to yours. I am 45, oily T zone; still prone to breakouts but reactive. Prone to blotchiness. I have some broken caps. Considering I am 45 I don't have a lot of wrinkles.
I can not use AHA at all. I can tolerate the Avene ystheal line with retinaldhyde (as opposed to retinol). I do not use manual exfoliate; even a micro fibre wash cloth has left me blotchy hours later.
Vitamin C products can be iffy for me. I would cautious with this type of product also.
My routine currently:
am
.Vichy cleansing water
.(optional) Clinique mild action lotion with .5% bha
optional if blotchy - LRP Rosalic
optional if dry - Cetaphil cream (neck, etc) under ss
. LRP Hydraphrase UV 30
I believe in sunscreen everyday. I also like Olay complete 15 (not as protective) and Clinique SCB 40 (not as moisturizing) I use ss all over my face and under eyes. I use an eye cream first - usually LRP Active C than apply my ss product.
PM
vichy cleansing water
-clinique toner if needed
-Avene Ystheal cream; followed by Avenue Eluage gel under eyes/smile lines
I also have Avene Diacneal and use this once weekly in T-zone.
Try to use as gentle as possible of products; use a sunscreen daily; avoid products that can be harsh (AHA, etc) and do not over exfoliate.
Oh and I LOVE MMU. Once you find a great match it really helps on the "less than perfect" skin days.
Edited to add: I would be very cautious about getting any sort of "peel"; microderm treatments. These are fine for more normal skin but I do know they can be too much for sensitive types.
I have had great facials with extractions but it really depends on finding a great esthetician. Extractions do help with clogged pores, etc.
Personally I want to have laser for the broken caps done next year. |

I would slowly incorporate a copper peptide into your program. I also have thin, fragile skin, but the copper peptide has helped. I use Skin Biology, but started out with Neova. The Neova products are more pricey, but definately, gentler. |

Tripware, it would be my suggestion for you to check out the Remergent line or Valmont products, both of which are sold by EDS. I use both these lines and they are very good for aging skin, are very gentle on the skin and are suitable for oily skin. |

Hi!
I really love the product line by Ice Elements.
The products are very gentle, yet very effective.
Since you have such a specific issue and I would not want to send you in the wrong direction, I would say to check out the products at http://iceelements.com and if the line interests you at all, take a click over to the message boards and ask Brenda, the resident Esthetician, what she would suggest for you.
Brenda is very good at what she does and she will work with you to personalize a regime that is the best for your skin... and if she feels that you would do well with something from a different line, she will suggest it to you... She isn't one to pitch a sale so do feel comfortable chatting with her if you are in the least bit curious of what she has to say.
Good luck!

Have you seen a dermatologist? Renova may work well for you--tretinoin actually remodels the skin and stimulates collagen production. Very few, if any, OTC products can do this. Renova's emollient base may agree with your skin. The key is to build up to nightly application very, very slowly. Avene's Ystheal is another possibility.
Let us know how it goes! |

I'd second the suggestion of Remergent products, they are very gentle and not at all irritating but really do help give skin a glow. |

perhaps you can try Cellular Skin Rx Calming Bio-Lipid Repair Creme Moisturizer. It was suggested by one of the forum members for my mom who has aging sensitive skin. I ordered this for her and am waiting for it to come. I will update what she thinks.

If your skin is okay with handling "cones", i would definitely try ice elements as Bosoxy suggested. Their moisturizers give skin a very nice plumping effect and are great moisturizers. |

Thank you all for your suggestions. I really appreciate the feedback, and am excited to hear about these products I've never heard of before! Maybe there's hope for me yet! I am going to do some research, make an appointment to go see a dermatologist, check out some of the reference OTC products and will definitely keep you all posted.
Cheers! |
