I was just discussing the pH issue with another woman. The conversation came about because in the newest New Beauty there is an article and a recommended "routine" for night applying a retinol product first, and then a serum on top of it. I questioned this, as I always have read lightest to heaviest being the correct order. Anyway, the woman I spoke with thought the bigger issue was pH and active ingredient interaction. This made me think about how often I poo-poo using an entire range of products from the same place, but it actually may be a good thing (and not just a marketing ploy) as the products are all made to work together. Whereas when we add product on top of product, we have no way of knowing what "works" together and what is potentially inactivating another product, etc. Just something I have been giving thought to.

Makes sense to me!

I use 100% witch hazel without alcohol on my face daily. Should I be using this, or is it messing up the ph level of my skin? What is the ph level of witch hazel? I have heard mixed messages regarding this astringent. Can someone please clarify?

Hi ,I am new to these boards but have been reading a lot of good stuff on here. I just recently bought a 5% DMAE gel and am still confused on whether I should be putting it on before my toner or after my toner? Also, does anyone know where I can get the highest concentration of DMAE - does it come in 10% or higher? Loving it so far, but only used it once. Thanks everyone!

this is such a great topic, but I am unsure of something so I need help.
I use 2% BHA pH 3.4, and then 10% AHA pH 4 ( I am soon running out of this and am going to replace it with a 8-10% AHA pH 3.8 ). My question is: can I layer them without waiting times in between? Do these two products have to have exactly the same pH value, or can it vary slightly?

here`s what the first post says:
d) If a 2% or 5% BHA is being left on the skin, before a leave on AHA, you don’t need to wait to apply the AHA. Apply BHA, Then AHA, then wait a total of 30 minutes with both products layered, then proceed to next product application. (assuming both acids have the lower pH)

tnx Smile

wow, this is a really informative post. thank you!

im currently using AHA lac-hydrin 12% for my KP arms and legs. I will probably add paula's choice BHA to my regime soon (once I get the parcel). I'll come back then to confirm the order of applying the creams.

This is really great information. I will incorporate this info into my routine and I hope that it will help my products work better and clear up my acne and congested skin.

Thank you for the informative post Tangal but i am still unsure about how to repair acid mantle. what skincare regimen to use for 14-17 days to repair my acid mantle? My skin is very sensitive, fragrance, dust, stress, dishwashing and even my own hair falling on face or my back cause itchiness. i dont wear makeup and kinda ocd about squeaky clean lead me to this stage, showered twice a day in boarding school, used what not. i din't know any better then. So now since i have a sensitive skin, i thought my skin was dry because of the itchiness. But then i have acne, large pores(cheeks),blackheads(nose) and even feels oily after moisturising, causing pimples to flare. I am at my wit's end. Awaiting your response Tangal or anyone who has any idea.
also,if anyone here knows where acid mantle post is on here, would really appreciate the help.she mentions its a topic for a whole new post but couldnt find it. Also, no steaming? what about sauna? right now, i will use honey to cleanse my face or clinique mild cleanser for dry skin for when i shower(creamy). please advise.
