I was talking to a friend about all my fun new DIY stuff the other day and looking at my skin, I realized, maybe I'm NOT oily, and I'm just shiny. After I wash my face, i seem matte enough, but once i put on my Vit C and my ss, I look all shiny again. Perhaps it's the sunscreen that's adding shine, and I've been treating a problem that may not be there! I do have a slight problem with acne lately.....
What do you guys think?

If you have really small pores, your skin can look shiny sometimes -- mine is reflective after I wash my face sometimes. The best test to grab some of those blotting tissues or sheets (clean and clear makes some) and see what comes off on it. If just a few spots, you don't have oily skin.
I have a hard time deciding if my skin feels "normal" or greasy too. And acne is't necesarily a sign of oily skin. |

Angyl my face looked shiny all the time and I was using blotting papers several times a day. When I switched to Sofina Perfect Lucent sunscreen I was amazed. Since I have been using this my skin is not shiny looking and I only have to blot once or twice a day. I actually don't think that my skin is as oily as I thought it was. I even use two moisturizers under the Sofina and still no shine! I absolutly love how my skin looks now (other that some acne). So yes I think that the sunscreen can be a big factor in causing a shiny look. I think that some C serums can also cause a shiny look. I have been using the SkinMedica C Complex and I think it is only fair to say that my lack of shine is probably due to both the SkinMedica which has silicones and the Sofina.
I agree with waffle on acne not necesarily being a sign of oily skin. In fact I only get acne on the dry areas of my face! |

I second this and I also use Sofina, except I use the pink tinted Nuance Up. The oily-ness of my skin has improved so much with the use of--oddly enough--a cream cleanser, Emu oil, Sofina and a thin layer of MOM primer. |
