So I'm sort of job hunting right now.

Last week I got turned down for a job at a skincare company b/c I didn't have enough consumer sales experience.

The recruiter told me I didn't have enough sales experience to know what consumers want in a skincare product or how they think before purchasing ... ???

Granted, I'm not like many of you here .. but the fact that I visit here means that I know more than the average Joe. During the interview I was literally running circles around the VP with my knowledge of the skincare industry and his competitors ... whatever.

I've thought about sending an email with new info on upcoming sales tactics from his competitors but now I figure why waste my time.

Sorry to hear that Rjez. Judging from what I've read from you on this forum, my guess would be that you would be a wonderful asset to the company. My impression is that you weren't turned down because you aren't qualified. In my personal experience, working in a hospital environment, I know that being a minority(I'm middle eastern, so in the small backwards town i'm, I've actually heard strangers stare at me and say things like "osama..." Shock ) and being a woman makes people have less faith in my ability, so I can see how frustraited you must be in that you feel qualified for the position. I totally don't mean to insinuate that this man a sexist or a racist, it's even possible that he was simply intimidated by you! There are plenty of things that could have affected his decision, but I highly doubt it wasbecause you aren't capable. I hope this is understandable, I don't feel very capable at expressing thoughts right now Laughing Good luck on your job hunt!

Rjez, you wouldn't want to work for them anyhow. When a company finds a stupid reason like that to not hire you, that gives you a big clue in to how they would be to work for ... a friend of mine was turned down for a job because she wasn't, and I quote, "enough of a wallflower" for them! This girl is 150% personality, and she wanted the job so bad, but there is no way she would've liked working there! Who doesn't hire people because they have a personality? Sheesh! They would've found any stupid excuse to fire her, so its best she didn't go to work there in the first place.

As for the folks you interviewed with, just know this ... they missed out on a chance to have a really smart, dynamic lady working for them, so its their loss. You will find a place better suited to you, and you will be snapped up fast. You know the saying "the diamonds always are grabbed first!" And I agree with Dealated - he was probably intimidated by you.

Rejz, that was a really bad excuse for not hiering you! Shock

I think you should apply for a job with the competition, get hired because you really good, make a stunning marketing plan and knock the old company out of buisness! Bad Grin

Come on, you can do it! Cool

Rjez,

It just sucks, doesn't it? I've been trying to find a job lately, but I'm not getting called at all. Personally, I think it's due to my age (47). Of course, I don't have that on my resume, but when it shows 20+ yrs of work experience (18 yrs @ the same company), there's no way to hide it. And if they ever let me interview, they'd see that I'm not some tired "old" jaded salesperson... But I never get the chance!

So... I'm now starting my 4th concurrent part-time job - waitressing!!

- one of my good friends (and ex-employee) is Egyptian and Muslim. I got flack when I met her and wanted to hire her. I pushed my way and she turned out to be one of the best employees for the company. Super nice, super sweet and never pushed her religion.

The interesting thing for me is that I'm Asian but have a Caucasian last name ... always an "eye-opener" when people meet me.

MermaidGirl - This is why I love coming here - I knew someone would have great objective advice. This company is a startup so it's not even clear they COULD find market share.

Schnee - You know, that's a thought!

catmcall - I have the similar issue, I'm 44. My biggest problem is that I want to work for a small company or startup. Since I'm in marketing - I'm too experienced for many startups but I'm not interested in a senior level position.

Here's my big problem for the week ... I'm set for an all-day onsite interview with a biotech company next week. Problem is, I can't remember is this is the company that an ex-coworker's sister is employed.

If it is - I just don't want to bother. The sister is a total wack, backstabber and belligerant. Even if her sister is nothing like that - I just don't want any ties or remembrances to that position.[/i]

call the main switchboard for the company and ask for her, if they connect you, hang up and you'll know shes there!!! If you feel the real need to hide its u doing this, go to a pay phone or hide ur number when you dial it, I think here you dial *67 then the number and ur name, number, ect won't show!!!

Okay, here's the really lame part ... I don't know her name. I have the name of her sister, but:

1. don't know if it's a maiden name.
2. not even sure if I have the right company.

But, this I do MEET the sister, she'll recognize the company name.
